my very close-by local rental store
lost its lease
and closed a couple of week ago
its inventory was insufficiemnt
especially in foreign films
(not a single Bergman or Fellini!)
but I liked the people there
esdpweically the guy who always asked me
when I entered
if I'd parked my broom correctly
to the gasps of whoever overheard
and didn't know us

and since I'm so proud of having a tank of gas
last 2-3 months I don;t want to travel
the increased distance to yet another store
with a limited inventory
so today I signed up at NEtflix!

WHAAA-HOOOO!!!!!!

my queue contains
Seventh Seal
LA Dolce Vita
The Prisoner series
The Avengers starting with year '65
Clockwork Orange
Lolita

900,000 titles to chose from
no late fees
I'm in cinemaheaven

Re-watched The 400 Blows the other morning. Dammit, I love that film. Leaud's peformance: genius, simply put.

A good friend of mine, who also happens to be an absurdly self-assured film buff, told me that Jules Et Jim is boring as fuck. I suspect, though, that his hatred of the film is more a reflection of his disturbingly deep hatred of the French in general (which is possibly a result of Rugby. I haven't a clue, really).

Never heard of the other two, tho'.

In summary, I need to watch more Bergman. Much more Bergman.

yes i adore it too, though it knackers me because its so near - no surprise i think since you love the trilogy, poinstman, and Suz you have to see Father Ted, really. Last night/this morning we watched the Lent ep, in which Father Dougal gives up rollerblading and in the course of withdrawal, sees Ted as a big boot, :P

Suz, about Netflix, have you seen Vera Drake?it's Mike Leigh's best, i think. It's not perfect, by which i mean that i think by now that his cast/repertory are so knowing of what he wants that the dialogue in particular is sometimes/often stylized, but it is fantastic, treasurable filmmaking and Imelda Staunton is completely astonishing

I'd get it for you. kl0pper
if I was well minted
but alas
it made me wince
just to get it for myself
(netflix has an indefinite save on Twin Peaks 1st season)
and I got impatient. . . .

I remember being most enthusiastic about it
when it first aired . . .
