Perth Glory's disappointment at losing Scott Neville to Newcastle Jets will be offset by confirmation Steven McGarry will stay at the club next season.

Former Scottish Premier League midfielder McGarry has agreed in principle to a new Glory deal, which is expected to be ratified this week.

He joined Glory in 2010 and was instrumental in their charge towards the A-League grand final this season but has had to take a significant pay cut.

Glory coach Ian Ferguson said there were still minor details to be resolved but he anticipated the club would hang on to the former St Mirren and Motherwell midfielder.

"I don't see any problems and we should know within the next 24 to 48 hours," Ferguson said yesterday.

The coach said he was disappointed to lose Neville but respected the 23-year-old's decision to seek a new challenge at the Jets, who recently resolved their off-field troubles after Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy's personal approach to owner Nathan Tinkler.
