The Ultimate Guide to Item Flipping, by Obese Inc ;)

Items and limits.

Items I flip often and the limits per 4 hours for them (due to request, the price margins have been taken off):

Limit: 10/4 hours

Whip
Ahrim's Robeskirt
Ahrim's Robetop
Karil's X-bow
Karil's Leathertop
Dharok's Platelegs
Dharok's Platebody
Torag's Helm
Torag's Platelegs
Torag's Platebody
Dragon 2h
Dragon legs
Dragon boots
Dragon hatchets
Dragon chain
Dark Bow
Armadyl Helm
Bandos Chestplate
Bandos Tassets
Zamorakian Spear
Black Mask
Bandos Boots
Archers' Ring
Berserker Ring
Sara Sword
Verac's Set
Guthan's Set
Dharok's Set

Note: When buying any type of Barrow's armour, remember that if you buy one of the items, you can't buy the set as it counts towards the maximum limit per 4 hours, and the opposite as well, for example; I buy 4 Dh Platelegs, I can only buy 6 Dh Sets. Another example; I buy 10 Verac's Plateskirts, I can't buy ANY Verac's Sets, as I've already reached the maximum limit.

Limit: 100/4 hours

Granite Maul
Regen Brace

Limit: 5k/4 hours

Prayer Potion (4)

Limit: 10k/4 hours

Shark
Rocktail
Dragon Bones

Limit: 20k/4 hours

Raw Shark
Raw Rocktail
Red Chinchompa

Limit: 25k/4 hours

Blood Rune
Death Rune
Astral Rune

Always remember to be patient, wait around 30 minutes for the items that have a limit of 10 before you change your offer. These targets for profit are MINIMUM, always aim for higher. The 4 hour limit means that; for example, I buy a whip, I can't sell it in the GE for 4 hours, although I can sell it in trade, this may mean making no profits, so we wait the 4 hours. The limits for buying an item per 4 hours are; if I buy 10 whips, I can't buy any more for 4 hours after I bought my last whip, the same with the selling, after I buy my first whip, I can't sell them for 4 hours. It is recommended to have some sort of timer, so you know when your limit is up, but it gets tricky if you're doing a few items. It is also better to mix up your items, because, for example, I have bought 10 Dragon legs, I have waited 4 hours and have sold them, I can't re-buy them for 4 hours, and then I still have to wait another 4 hours to re-sell. So it would be much better profit to mix up the items, like; I buy 10 Dragon legs, I wait 4 hours and sell them, I buy Black Masks, I wait 4 hours and sell them, so in 8 hours, I can make profit from 2 items.

Timing

Items will not always sell for great amounts of profit, or the minimum profit you should aim for at particular times, as different Time Zones may be at a different stage in the day, and so there will not be enough demand to meet the supply of the item. By this I mean, if you have bought for example, Zamorakian Spears, overnight, which bring 1M profit almost always (Per 10), and you wake up in the morning, there will be not be that much people logged in/buying any items. Most, if not, all Americans will be asleep, making it harder to sell the item for the desired price.

Furthermore, when there is a GrandExchange Update (GU), which updates all the prices of items according to how well they bought/sold the previous GU, it is harder to sell items immediately after one. This is because people still have offers in the GE for the previous GU's prices. Waiting a couple of hours (1-2) usually does the trick. If the items continue to remain in your GE offer, not selling, you must lower your price.

If you are not a confident Flipper, I advise you to NOT do the following. Buying an item that we know will rise is fine at any time of the GU, however there are risks that the item may get dumped by a Merchanting Clan. Buying an item that you know will decrease in price near the end of the GU is not a smart move. If you type !gu in IRC, the bot will tell you when the previous GU was, and when the next one is expected to happen, this helps you to know, approximately, how much time you have until all the prices are updated. Flipping an item that is decreasing, when the GU is estimated to happen in less than 5 hours is a bad move, it can result in you making very little profit, or in some cases losing money. Buying a rising item before a GU does the exact opposite of the above. You run the risk of the item being dumped - yet you can make vast amounts of profit, in some cases, double of the intended profit margin.

How to find Prices

Firstly, we need to find out whether an item is rising or falling, we do this by typing "!ge itemhere" in IRC.

Tip: ALWAYS PUT AN OFFER FOR 1 OF YOUR ITEM, NOT THE MAX LIMIT THAT YOU CAN BUY

If the item has both risen or decreased in price over the last GU, we put an offer for 1 of the item at med, to see whether it auto buys (buys instantly, sometimes with money back). If it doesn't, leave the offer in for a further 5 minutes, depending on the item (items costing more than 2M are more likely to buy slower than the cheaper ones). If the item still hasn't bought, raise the offer, again depending on the value of the item. For an item under 1k, raise the offer a few gp/1 gp, items under 1M, raise the offer a few k, items costing 1-3M, raise the offer by 5-10k, items costing 3-5M, raise the offer 10-20k, items costing 5-10M, raise the offer 30-50k, items costing over 10M, raise as you see fit. Repeat this process if the item continues to not buy.

If the item DOES buy, you will either get the item with some gp back, or without. This method immediately eliminates the idea of the item rising/decreasing, depending on whether it auto bought. So if the item has auto bought at med, for items costing under 1k, buy a few gp over min, for items under 1M, lower the offer to 5-10k above min, for items costing 1-2M, lower the offer to 10-15k over min, for items costing 2-5M, lower the offer from med, the amount of profit that you intend to gain from the item, e.g Karil's Leathertop, we would buy 1 of the item at med, see how much cash you get back, if you get around 20k back, buy the ktops 120k under med, if you get 30k back, 130k under med etc. Prices vary and you can always get items at different prices at different times for more profit. Items that cost 5-10M, apply the same method for the 2-5M prices. Items costing over 10M are complicated, just pretty much guess at the prices, buying 1 at med, seeing the cash you get back, then simply trying a price for some good profit.

The sell price of a decreasing item will always be med/under med, at rare occasions it rises to above med. Selling a rising item depends, again, on the profit you intend to make, most smaller items (under 2M) sell just under max when rising, items (higher than 2M) will sell for the target profit margin, and sometimes above.

Predicting Prices

If an item has been buying for med/above med, and selling near max for the whole day, you know it will rise.

If an item has been buying under med, and selling just under med for the whole day, you know it will decrease.

Items usually have a peak (a point at which they will rise to, then fall). If an item excedes this peak, the item is either being merched, or has suddenly gained a high demand by the market. The smart thing to do is simply don't touch the item, however you can take the risk and flip these items as they rise rapidly.

The item I am Flipping has been dumped?! What do I do!?

The only ways you'll know if an item has been dumped, and you've bought some of it, is by;
-When you bought the item, it may have auto bought for min. This means that either the demand of the item is so low at that point of the day, or the item has simply been dumped by a merch clan. Solution - keep it selling in your GE at min.
-If you recorded the time you bought the first of the item, and you are 100% sure that you are off your limit, you have tried to sell the item min, yet it won't sell, then the only solution is to sell the item at min overnight and overday, and to hope that they sell. If the item you flipped was buying above med, it should sell at min, so you should know wether you are off the limit, but if you are sure you are off and then don't sell min, the item has been dumped.

Terminology

Buy - If the item is being bought by you from the GE/or a person (rare cases).
Sell - Selling the item to the GE
Rise - When an item is increasing in price
Dump - When an item has been horded by a Merchanting Clan, and they decide to sell all of their item, usually leaving people unable to sell that item at minimum
Min - Minimum price you can buy/sell an item at in the GE
Med/Mid - The Market price of an item in the GE
Max - The maximum price you can buy/sell something at in the GE
Crash - When an item is rapidly decreasing, usually after a Dump
Auto-Buy - When an item buys instantly, often with cash back

not a bad guide but when i teach ppl how to flip i recommend that they dont get money back, you have to realize that isn't the best sign. Patience is a big part of flipping.
Also once you start flipping and become familiar with it, it's so easy to make cash
