As some of you know, Unsounded was largely influenced by role-playing. With this in mind, having a place for our own role-play seems necessary. For those who don't know what it is or the kind that is typically played on forums, it is, in short, collaborative story-telling.

I'm not someone who is well versed in this area, so if any of you want to make a topic here, detailing all the general information and a better explanation, go ahead and I'll pin it up for everyone to read.

Now this is something I used to be well versed in, but it's been about six years, so I'm... unpracticed. If no one else has done it or has ideas, I'm sure I could crank out some basic instructions of how I used to do it.

I've RPed before but only through IM or mail, never through a forum. Further instructions would be lovely! :D

It's up to you. If not, don't think to much on it. I know that there's plenty of other RP savvy people out there.

The first and most obvious question is would this RP be played in Kasslyne? This /is/ a forum for Unsounded, so that'd make sense, but it'd take some work to make it canonically accurate as possible.

The way I ran my RP forum was once the world was established, to create sub-forums for each country, and then individual threads for locations in said countries (cities, bars, character homes, etc). Then characters jumped from forum to forum as they traveled cross-country, adding more and more posts on the location threads. Any new locations needed were PMed to the RP GM for approval and they'd add the thread (or subforum).

Characters had a full bio in their profiles, but we didn't roll D&D stats or anything, just basic character info. There were sticky threads listing a basic plot and good places for new characters to jump in, and any full-board wide plots involving the apocalypse were discussed before put into play.

Hmmm... I consider myself fairly well versed at play-by-post roleplaying, but I don't know if I could adequately explain it. I'll certainly try to come up with one, though. Just to clarify, this is the sort of stuff you're talking about, right?
Player A: Zarflable the wizard fiddled with his silky beard as he regarded the symbols. "Most interesting," He remarked.
Player B: Gofrunk was getting impatient. "Well, you gonna translate 'em? I don't want to spend another second down in this crypt."

That sort? Don't want to make a guide and you guys be like "WTF is this? D&D edition -1?"

Well, given that the consensus of people will only know the world of comic, and that there's still a great deal of information we don't know yet, accuracy would be something that would come with time. Also, I've seen fan forums where they will sometimes create something completely original, so . . . . there's quite a few different ways to go about this. If it comes to that, we'll just pop in some subforums.

That's quite the level of organization, I had no idea.

That is a really complex level of RPing. Way more than I've ever don on the interwebs.

Complexity is only as necessary as the level of RPing dictates (some use systems, other don't, some have loose GMing, others tight). The amount of Roleplaying in a dedicated setting and the number of concurrent plots usually determines how many layers of subforums are involved.

It was designed to be as organized and easy to follow as possible. Our forum got a lot of newbies who were always so confused, so we tried to make it as painless as possible! I won't be able to participate in the RP much at all, but I wanted to give you guys another option for how to possibly do it.

I don't have the original forum for easy browsing, alas, but Wayback Machine archived a little of it back when it first got rolling. Maybe seeing it would help?

The main forum page:

If you scroll down the main page to "the Sealed City", you can see the subfolders I was talking about, though sadly Wayback Machine didn't take it a step further to see the individual topics :(

I think we could feasibly do either/or in regards to what world is played. I'd be interested to try and make a run through Kasslyne, just to test our mad-skillz at paying attention to details (and to desecrate the sacred, ha ha) ;)

Hi everyone!

I think playing in Kasslyne would be lots of fun. The more important question though is WHERE in Kasslyne do we play? I vote for Cresce or Ulestry since we've seen those places and know some information about them. Maybe we could play the Red Berry Boys BEFORE Duane and Sette show up to interrupt their doings. Starfish is my favourite character and I think I could play him pretty well, so we have a ready villain!

I'm really excited about this! I love forum roleplay!

Argent also brought up another point (inadvertently) - would playing characters from Unsounded be allowed? Or would all original characters be required?

Here's Ashley's opinion on people RPing her characters:

Hi muses!

Ashley doesn't forbid it from being done though. I think it would be all right. If you think it's a bad idea I won't pursue it though. I don't want to make waves!

Ah Argent, I'm not in charge of anything! It was just food for thought for anyone reading the thread.

My own personal opinion: I love original characters because I like to see what people choose to be and watch them grow! Premade characters like Starfish generally have to act a certain way. My favorite pastime is watching the creativity of others... the choices that they make as they RP is like getting a special peek into the mind of someone else.

This sounds like the funnest. Buuuuuuut...I think I am, personally, going to wait until we've seen more of Kasslyne before actually attempting. Being the fangirl that I am, I already have some original characters thought out, but I've never done RP before, and I want to do it RIGHT, ya know?

I will be an eager audience to whatever y'all come up with in the meantime, though!
