Hi, Everbody, I'm diplout.

Some of you might know me from the Minecraft Forums. But, If you don't, Hello!

I'm running for the position of Minister of Justice. With the huge amount of Refugees after joining the Versutian Federation due to Z-Day, I feel like we need to lay down the law and keep order within the Versutian Federation since a lot of them are showing interest in staying with us.

I'm very active, People who know me from the MC forums will know that I'm on the forums a lot. So, I'll be easy to contact, You can send me a message on the MC forums, these forums or you can just send me a telegram on NationStates. Either way, I'll reply to all question I receive about the position of Minister of Justice or any other matter. My nation is "The Republic Of Diploutia" if anyone is wondering.

I have a couple of ideas/goals in mind for if I get elected as Minister of Justice, First thing I'll be doing is working with the other ministers and the President of VF (Versutian Federation) to set out some rules, basically laws, that nations in the VF will be required to follow. Other ideas/goals I have are listed below.

  • A strike system for nations that commit smaller offences.
  • Everyone will be entitled to a fair trial in the Versutian Federation.
  • A committee of people to act as a jury during trials.
  • Make sure that the law is enforced and that there is order throughout the Versutian Federation

I feel like I've added enough in here, I'll edit it if any more is needed. Leave any questions you may have in this topic, and I'll answer all of them when I get a chance.

Vote for me!

Are you a believer in principles of that which is not prohibited must not be punished?

(If someone does something bad, but there is no rule against it, we should not punish them, even if we immediately write a rule to cover the situation.)

Or are you a believer that there is an overlying duty of individuals to behave appropriately, and that the rules are warnings and guides on how to act this way?

n the event of a conflict between laws, which has supremacy in your opinion.
The older, or the newer?

To Knox:

In Nationstates, I'm afraid none as minister. But, You have to start somewhere. I believe I have good leadership skills and that I am firm but fair. I think I am well able for this position and I would like to be given a chance.

To Azazel Crowley:

Well, That's a tricky one. If they do something bad, and there is no law against it, It really depends how serious their actions were. For example, If they are posting links to inappropriate material. For example, Pornography. Then something will be done about that. There definitely will be consequences. But, lets say, There was no rule in place against bad language, and someone began dropping the F-bomb in every sentence. It's not that bad of an offence as posting links to inappropriate material, so little will be done about it. Maybe a slap on the wrist, just a little warning asking them to stop being so rude. But if they continue doing it, something will be done.

You see what I'm saying here?
It really just depends on what the actions they took.

But that was a good question, thanks for asking!

Sorry Azazel, Didn't see the second part of your question, In reply to said question.

I don't think it's a question of which is older and which is newer. I would need to look at both laws and decide which one has supremacy in that situation. You can't really just choose by saying "We have had this law for longer, so it stays."

I edited the OP by adding a list to shorten it so you will have less to read, I understand some people don't like reading long posts.

How willing would you be to rule against an administrator if you had reason to believe a decision they had made (say, banning someone from the forums) was unjust, unfounded, or reflected poorly on the region?

To Emburia:

I would be 100% willing to do that. First, I'd try to gather all the facts of the case together before I do anything. I would contact the administrator asking what the reason was for the decision they made. We're just going to use the example you gave, of banning someone on the forums, as an example here. Secondly, I would review the content on the forums that was the reason for the ban. If possible, I would also get in contact with the person who was banned. After I've gathered all the facts, and if I believe that the decision the administrator made was unjust. I would gladly rule against an admin and stick up for the person who was banned.

Good question, Thanks for asking! :)

Diplout, let me rephrase the newer/older question. Assuming that both laws are constitutionally passed and of equal importance. Let us assume that the new one directly contradicts the old one (for example, the old one states that the MoJ must give a ruling on any case within one week, while the second one states that the MoJ must give a ruling within two weeks). Which one is to be applied?

I still don't like choosing just based on which one is older and which one is newer. I don't like that at all.

But, In that case I'd go with the older law. I don't want people getting confused by thinking we still have the old law while we have changed it. I like to keep it simple

However, If I do get elected. It won't be a matter of which is older or which is newer. But I will keep what I said in mind when making a decision.

As a judge you might be forced to choose by the facts of a dispute.
Also, how would you answer to a 'member State', claiming not to be bound by the constitution of the region, since they have not joined the forum and are charged with a breach of the Constitution by virtue of something they posted on the Regional Message Board?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking.

If a nation is a member of the Versutian Federation, then they are bound by the constitution. Even if not on the forums. There is a link to the constitution found on the page of the region.
