Astracarn for WA Delegate: It's Time

The zombie apocalypse has ended with another success story, and with it a huge influx of nations has arrived thanks to the tireless efforts of many Versutian Federation citizens. Now, I feel that the Immigration department will be in safe hands, and I'm happy to pass the torch come November 7. As such, this is me announcing my intention to run for WA Delegate at this election.

Astracarn for Delegate!

Past Experience with the Region
* Founding member
* First Secretary of State (position dissolved into MoFA and MoI)
* First Minister of Immigration (stepping down)
* WA Delegate for a whole day (wow!)
* Co-created this forum with Divair
* Set-up the regional IRC
* Drafted the Constitutional Amendments Act #3
* Minister of Immigration during both Zombie Apocalypses

The First and Second Zombie Apocalypse
The first Zombie Apocalypse saw the region grow from 30 nations to over 300, before plateauing at around the early-200s mark after many refugees returned to their home regions, whilst others decided to call the Versutian Federation their new home. This was an outstanding success for the region, and this growth couldn't have happened without our refugee thread on the NationStates forums. This effort to allow refugees to be safe from infection was replicated in the recent Zombie Apocalypse, another success, where the region doubled in size, from 300 to over 600 nations. During both these occasions, I was the Minister of Immigration, and ensured the thread was visible whenever I could to maximise the potential viewership of the thread. As well as this, I was a part of the overall coordination of the refugee effort, as well as hitting zombie embracers with cure missiles whenever they entered the Versutian Federation during the time where both the Founder and Delegate were offline.

Voting on Resolutions
Currently, our process of voting on World Assembly and Security Council resolutions is fairly informal and not drafted into legislation, but I'd like to change that. As such, this will be my process when voting on WA and SC resolutions, since the vote of the Delegate = the number of endorsements that they have, which currently sits around 100.

Regarding voting, I will wait at least 24 hours before voting on any resolution. This is to gauge what the feelings of the citizens of the Versutian Federation are regarding the resolution, because my political views are rather centrist, whereas many in the VF are quite hard-left. Next, I will always follow what the majority of the region votes for. The WA Delegate represents the region's views, rather than their own, so even if I am against the resolution, if 70% of the VF is for it, I'll be voting FOR.

The Constitutional Amendments Act #3
(and what this means for you)
If you're new to the region, this might seem like standard procedure to vote for the WA Delegate, but many Federation veterans will be aware that November 2, 2013 will actually marks the first time that the region will have a proper election for the Delegacy. This is all very exciting, but what brought about this change? Simple: the Constitutional Amendments Act #3. I was the primary writer involved with drafting this new document, which changed from an endorsement race between multiple candidates to an official vote on the forum, similar to how other government positions, like the President, are elected. As well as changing how the Delegate is elected, the Act put in place a 50% endorsement cap of the Delegate's total endorsements to apply to the rest of the region, which you can see on our World Factbook Entry.

==============================================================================================================================================================

Finally, if you're fond of Australian political history (I'm Australian), you'd appreciate this nod to Gough Whitlam's "It's Time" campaign video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jykIqQxEOw. I recommend you listen up to the chorus, because it gets very powerful. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, feel free to reply to this thread or send me a private telegram. Thanks for reading, and I encourage you to make an informed decision and vote for change come November 2.

Not sure who I'll support this time around. Are you opposed to a debate where citizens can ask questions?

Of course not! A debate would be wonderful.

I'll be organizing it for tomorrow then. Expect it to start the morning of November 1st, and it'll probably run until the elections.
