Hey there, my name is RyudaXIII. I recently started making Let's Play videos for YouTube. www.youtube.com/user/RyudaXIII I've been a fan of Cry's for a while but I've only recently started watching the stream and checking out everybody's channels. I'm currently at University and I'm studying Creative Writing and English. You might see some of my short stories appearing on my channel. I like to play the electric guitar and I enjoy looking/listening at/to and discussing art and music. Thanks for taking the time to read this, have a good day. |

As in Matt Smith? At the moment I've been listening to more progressive and mathcore bands. My favourites at the moment are Protest the Hero and The Mars Volta. If you asked me to pick a favourite album I couldn't say but I'd recommend Fortress for Protest the Hero and Frances the Mute for The Mars Volta. I like a lot of different styles of music, I studied music performance at college. I listen to metal and rock mostly, however one of my favourite bands is Say Anything. I've been playing the guitar on and off for about 4 years now. I played it quite often while I was college because I had too, but after that my interest in it waned, college took away my drive and inspiration. I'm trying to get back into playing now. University has breathed new life into my creativity, and that's always a good thing. What about you? Do you play any instruments? |

Haha, I see what you did there.
Me? I'll listen to just about anything, my favorite genres being Rock, Metal, Progressive, Folk, Country, and EDM. I also enjoy a bit of Classical music here and there. My favorite artists/bands vary, but in the end I'll alway chose Rush, Muse, Mumford and Sons, Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan, and Basshunter. I've not heard those bands you mentioned before, but I'll definitely go check them out. I play a few instruments. I play the acoustic guitar and the electric bass. I don't play bass as much anymore, as the acoustic has kind of taken over my life. I love playing fingerstyle songs as I have a habit of losing picks like nobody's business. Both are self-taught over a couple years. I own an Ibanez AEG Acoustic and a Squier P-Bass. I also have a bit of piano under my belt, half self-taught and half with lessons. I also enjoy singing. I was in choir all throughout my school career. I'm actually going to school to become an elementary music teacher for voice. I want to inspire kids like my music teacher inspired me. Teach them how important it is in everyday life. Along with that I'm a(n) (very) amateur electronic music producer, under the handle Dylnmatrix (surprise, surprise). I started doing that in 2010, but didn't really start pumping out songs until February of 2012. I'm currently on a bit of hiatus though as I've hit a self-confidence roadblock, but I'm working to get around it. |

It's nice to see that you enjoy a wide range of music, if you enjoy Metallica, A7X and Rush you should probably enjoy Protest The Hero and The Mars Volta. For PTH I recommend listening to Cest La Vie or Sequoia Throne first. For TMV my personal favourite songs are Televators and Goliath. I'm fond of classic music also, but I don't listen to it that often. If the mood takes me for those instruments I usually listen to Elvenking or Nightwish. Guitar wise I own a BC Rich Warlock Metal Master, I mainly bought it for the shape when I was 14. My current main guitar though is a John Maya custom, it's in the shape of a Les Paul. It's a brilliant guitar. I know what you mean about losing picks too, it's horrible. I really need to upgrade my amp though. I played a bit of bass and piano in college, but I didn't commit. I didn't learn a lot in college really, I learnt a few scales and that's about it. They went around teaching the theory in a way that I couldn't agree with. It was a performance course too, but most of our work was producing or writing. It wasn't what I expected at all.
I've listened to the two songs you made for Cry, or about Cry. I enjoyed them, particularly Cry Plays: The Music. Was it all synthesised or did you record some live instruments? If you don't mind me asking, what has caused your roadblock? |

It was all synthesized. I'm thinking of including live instruments in the future, like my bass, but I need to figure out how to do that. Also: What is it about Cry Plays: The Music that you guys love so much? It's personally my least favorite of the two/three I've made for and I am making him. The only part I like is the breakdown through the end, because it's a good melody. As for the road block...I've been going through a bout of depression lately and it's hitting my self-confidence with music and inspiration hard. I've had a hard time sitting through my music without cringing. I nearly deleted it all yesterday, and I probably would've if my girlfriend hadn't stopped me. And I've also had a hard time getting a decent sounding tune out since this started. |

That's some pretty impressive work coming from synths. Personally my favourite part of the song is the transition from around 3:33 onwards to the rest of the song. From that point on I think it's absolutely amazing. Your use of melody and counter-melody is fantastic. You use harmony in just the right places too, I think you should add an extra layer of harmony either at the very end or somewhere near the middle, just to get everyone pumped. I've only made one electro piece before but I used a few simple melodies, I think 2 for the verses and 1 for the chorus, but every chorus/verse after I added or took away a harmony. For the ending of the song I think the bass was harmonised and the main melody was harmonised twice, so it was triple layered. I'll see if I can upload it so you can check it out if you want. It was only a college piece so it was made in a week but me and my friends like it so I'm happy with it. Another thing you do well is you know when to change, you don't let things get stale and repetitive but you also don't make people miss parts.
I know where you're coming from, I've had to deal some stuff like that before. I think the worst thing you could do is delete your work. In fact, I don't want to sound overly-righteous but I hate people who throw away work. It's pointless. The ideas could be used for something else, or you could come back and improve it later on. At the very least you should keep your work as a reminder to how far you have progressed. I hope you work through it, I'd like to see you make some more music. If there is anything you'd like me to specifically look at I will. Free criticism. Best criticism. |

Welcome Rudy. Do you mind if I call you Rudy? We don't seem to have much in common with musical tastes but that just makes it more interesting. I hope you find the Four Hams totally awesome, because it is. |

Well, thanks for asking Rudy C: I like post rock and uhm, non lyrical music, I guess is what I'd call it. Improvisational things, ambient stuffs? Lots of different types, I don't usually think in genres.. just kind of like.. yeah, that's why I have difficulty defining my musical tastes but generally lyricless songs. :3 Here is an example though. Gaaaaawd new album SO PUMPED. |

Hi, thought I'd introduce myself since I'm new to the forums. I'm Ellie and I'm at a University in England studying Game Design with some 3D modelling and animation too. Aside from smashing games nearly 24/7, I love to play my electric and acoustic guitar. My music taste tends to be that of a rock chick, I've seen Rise Against 3 times and loved seeing AC/DC in London. But I do like piano, one of my favourite classical artists is Ludovico Einaudi. His songs tend not to sound the same like most I've heard. I've also done a cover of "I Giorni"..here's a link for those who are curious. It's quality isn't great as my friend recorded it with his phone, and I shortened it. Piano Cover My other interests are writing (I'd love to be the scriptwriter in games as a backup plan), archery combined with horse riding, which I've been doing for about 8 years, and I quite like programming. (SQL, nerdy right?) A little something more..whenever I'm playing with my friends from America, I usually get ripped for the British accent and saying "bloody hell" when something scares me in Amnesia. Damn those water monsters. Anyway, nice meeting you all. Edited by ArlaaEllie, Jan 24 2013, 10:19 PM.

Welcome Ellie, I quite fancy that name, such charm! So you like piano, eh? I happen to be a huge fan of Debussy's work, any thoughts on that? Also I hope to take programming if my brain can handle it, is it really hard or just something that takes practicing? Like.. is it a "some people get it, some people don't" or a "keep trying you'll get it eventually" thing? SO.MANY.QUESTIONS. I really hope you find the forums to your liking c: |

I like Debussy, my favourite has to be the one everyone's heard of though - Clair De Lune. It's just really relaxing, and nice to fall asleep to. I love Isaac Shepard and Dax Johnson too, but unfortunately Dax died so he only has a few songs. :( In regards to programming, I was taught by a friend and I picked SQL up really quickly. SQL is kinda different to C++ etc, as it doesn't use coding in particular. It's more to do with database management, so it's easier to find what you're looking for rather than searching for hours on end. But as I used to program for a WoW server, I also scripted events and NPCs within the game, so like actions, making a new battleground, etc (I quit playing a couple of months ago as I started university, and it generally didn't interest me anymore). If you wanted to start with SQL, this is pretty helpful: http://www.w3schools.com/sql/default.asp Once you're used to the structure, you should get the hang of it. |
