So long story short, I'd like to throw a mega weekend in the near future at my current shop, All Things Fun in NJ, and I'd like to see the level of interest plus what those who would be interested would want as a prize. Let me know everyone. Money is the easiest, maybe we can buy a few cards with entry money if cards are what's wanted? Product is what it is, if its available and can be bought we can go that route. Custom mats are options too. Other off the wall options can be, everyone puts up a card(valued at a minimum price) and top X get the cards with top player getting 1st pick. Stuff I do have that might of interest, extended arts and official mats. I can get Savage Beatdowns(and other rare EA's) and I have a unplayed Joker Mat(along with a few other mats) Let me know everyone! |

DO IT UP!!! Also, for prizes what about a printed out set of the "official" counsel sets or have somebody make alternate art cards for already printed UDE cards like the Vs system custom design page on Facebook. I am currently meddling with making custom cards. And chip in money accordingly to how much this would cost to the number of people that participate. I know it's fairly cheap to make alternate cards so that's a less expensive way for prizes. Especially, if someone knows how to do it, and the foil cards being used to make alternate cards gets donated or someone buys a decent batch of cheap foil cards that people really don't play with. For me right now it basically free. I have transparency paper and a laser color printer here at work that I am able to use. So all I would need to do is figure out how to print out a decent crisp image on the paper to the right size and have a few blank foil cards. There can always be a cash prize but that would have to be on the DL if it is being hosted at a store of some sort. Edited by kevmac3685, Feb 18 2014, 04:51 PM.

I'm sure some of the MD crew would consider making a trip depending on the date and format. I can't speak for everyone else, but I literally don't care about prize support. My friend and I have basically all the non-DCL cards that we need and I don't really use playmats. I'm not a huge fan of playing for money either since that can make things ugly. At this point I just have fun trying to build new decks and playing live so just participating in a tourney is enough for me. |

Here's my current idea, subject to change should this become reality and people make a general agreement on a format. Format idea: Bring your own modern. Any 4 consecutive official UDE released set -Council sets, MCG and MEV are banned -EHB, MAA, MUL, MEX, DCX, MEQ and starter decks are considered universal and can be played in any deck regardless of what set they're attached to, this is where things get spicy lol. What do you guys think? |

I added you to a conversation on Facebook. All the vs players are in it. If you want to ask if they are interested. |

My only complaint with this is that I worry about a lack of originality. If people are trying to build cool stuff then more power to them, but if people are planning to just show up with origins style Titans, Trinity, Avengers Reservist, or other decks along those lines I would be pretty disappointed. |

In all honesty, anything that is competitive and open to all will end up with some try hard players. Just look at GenCon(didn't more than half of the players bring some lost city nonsense?) On that note, perhaps there could be incentive to not play a proven archetype, but again, competitive decks are bound to happen in any format you choose to have a tournament in. People build and test against what they think is the best/most probable to run into because regardless of prize, players want to win if they play. |

You can't stop the turnout of strong or popular decks. Almost every format was defined before the game died so most people will just go towards what they know. Especially with prizes involved. BYOM would creat a diverse metagame in the randomness it will bring. I don't hate the idea. Also it will allow players who may only have the older more aquirable sets to play legit things they like. Sentinels, Titans etc. |

While this is mostly true there are some things you can try do with regards to some specific targetted bannings or limitations/rules you can put on a format that can have an effect on the metagame by making some predefined power decks unplayable or at least less powerful if need be. This can allow for some less powerful and played decks from the past to have their time in the sun or at least force some extra level of creative deck building and in the best case scenario inspire people to come up with some new ideas. Already even with what SuperAzn has proposed he has banned PA and Omni, the inclusion or not of those two alone can have a large impact on what people might think to play. I'm not saying one can neccessarily make pinpoint bannings for a format like SuperAzn has proposed but one thing we definitely talked about for a while for the Glen Burnie tournament amongst our playgroup before the format was proposed was the count of legend cards that would be required.
