Update:

Targeting June 7th for the date of the tournament. Pre-registration will begin May 11th, and end May 30th. Entry will be $25 . I may impose a higher entry fee for non pre registration, this is to encourage pre-registration and help aquire as much prize support as possible.

I'm hoping for a crowd of at least 12 knowing that my group will fill at least half of it. If we can get 16 pre registrations prize support will be excellent. 24 pre registrations and I'll do my best to find some really good singles or something more than boosters. Boosters that will be used for prizes will be Marvel UNiverse.

More info to come, stand tuned in if you think you'll be showing up..

5 for store fee, 20 to go towards prizes. Good boosters cost a lot more than custom mats and I'd like to have a good amount of boosters for prize.

With the hope of 12 people that would create 240 dollars to use for boosters which can turn into about 4 boxes of MUN. 16 people would create 320 which would be about 4/5 boxes of MUN and a box or 2 of something cheap.

I could do less and give out less if people would prefer to go that route.. But I felt 25 to win a box + of MUN is more than fair.. If more people show up I could give a small refund since we'd probably have more money than needed at that point, or the extra cash could just go directly to prizes with the boosters, doesn't matter to me.

If I get 4 boxes of MUN and 12 people show up prizes woul be as followed:

1st: 36 packs
2nd: 20 packs
3rd: 12 packs
4th: 8 packs
5-8: 3 packs
9-last: 2 packs

This breakdown would change with more people since there would be more prize support. But again I'm only hoping for 12 minimum and I'd like it to be actually worth it for people to come out and win something. It's pretty obvious that no one is driving for poor prize support/just wanting to play.

Also, this might come off wrong or whatever but that's not my intentions, I'm just putting my opinion out there. If you can't afford 25 for a tournament, for a dead game that you probably almost never spend money on outside of singles, then you probably shouldn't be playing a game where the most important cards cost 20+

I understand 25 can go a long way in feeding a family and keeping your bills paid on and up to date, but again. If the 25 entry fee is the problem and not the drive or getting free time, you might need to sell your cards because your life priorities might be really out of whack. Even better idea, just sell a couple of cards and get the 25 that way ^_^

Again, no disrespect is meant from me and I apologize if anyone takes it personally or feels some type of way about what I said.

Any chance we can do it on the 8th instead. It's really difficult for me to get off on a Saturday.

Honestly 25 feels like a pretty high entry fee to me as well. I get that the idea is for "better" prizes but is anyone playing for prizes anymore?

Maybe other people feel differently, but considering there will also be travel costs and everything I'd rather the tourney be cheap regardless of how that impacts the prize support.

What he said. Like I live right across the bridge so getting to jersey nd paying the fee is no big deal for me... but you also have to consider the people coming from out of state, travel cost, Tolls, gas, hotel cost, food, etc etc

CapedCrusader makes a good point. However, me personally, I don't have an issue paying $25 for the entry fee/pre-registration. I will admit that $25 for dead game is a little steep but you said that prize support will be bigger so I'm cool with that. At the end of the day I don't really have an issue with it but let's see what every1 else thinks/says.

I don't mind paying the $25 either. At least everybody pretty much walks away with something. But back in the day weren't sealed, drafts, pre-release celebrations, and tournaments ranging from $15 to $30 anyways. Why all the sad faces?

While I can definitely afford it I understand why $25 is a lot in the minds of many.

The simple answer to your questions Kev is the game wasn't dead back then and most of those tournaments and prize support were going to be for the current set which you may not actually have everything from.

I know for me I've been playing since origins and have thrown a small fortune at the game when it was still alive. My collection is basically complete, missing a few things here and there almostly exclusively from DCL but for any other set if I wanted it I procured it a long time ago. Not that I use playmats at all either but playing for packs isn't really a driving force for me these days so if the prizes were lesser and the tourney was cheaper that'd work just fine for me too. I'm in it for the fun of deck building and playing.

Do we have to have cards from 4 sets or can we have a deck with just 1 set? Ex. If I'm running F4 from MOR. Do I have to use cards from MOR, DOR, MSM, and DSM? Or can I can just use cards from MOR?
