Is there a point to just throwing random keywords onto the characters like mind games and schemer? I'm guessing maybe there are plot twists that reference characters with specific keywords. Otherwise it just seems needless.

That's what I was thinking as well Warlock. I also see that Emma is rocking 2 Health instead of 1. Interesting.

It's exactly the same as how Pokemon does static powers.

Spoiler: click to toggle

They name a character's ability so it has obvious flavor for the player. Nothing more than that.

I'm going to guess that it's a result of their push toward a less hardcore (possibly younger) playerbase. Notice targeting is apparently no longer a thing, because Frost's ability would have had it.

Of all things, I don't like the look of that. I really don't. There are ways to fix VS' complexity problems without dumbing it down. I really hope they aren't dumbing it down.

It's so you can say "Emma is playing some Mind Games on you homeslice!!!"

I'm wondering if they are even going to have any "Activate" powers.

You just hurt my head BH. Please stop. [weep]

lol. Seriously though the more I look at the way they are writing these cards and then compare them to how well written original Vs cards were just makes me hang my head in disappointment.

I'm starting to be afraid that this is going to be like Hearthstone. By that I mean you won't be able to do anything on your opponents turn.

From the Rules Primer we got from UDE:
Quote:

During your turn, your opponent can only play Plot Twists or use powers during Combat (this change also ups the pace of play). Each Plot Twist and Super Power states during which Phase it may be used, or if you can use it during Combat.
Whether this means you can use Powers or Plot Twist before the Combat Phase during your turn is a different story as we are not sure yet if that is possible with the info that has been given.

Honestly I hated that about Hearthstone at first and now it doesn't bother me at all. It's probably because I've played it regularly for over a year now so I don't even notice it.

You play EU or US?

Reason I ask is my friends I play with are from the UK so I play on the EU Server.

And I agree as well warlock. At first it felt weird in Hearthstone not being able to do anything on my opponents turn but now it feels fine.

I play on the US server. Hearthstone is a great game but I mostly play it to fill the void of VS. Hopefully after GenCon I can have two card games to play instead of one.

I hear you. Hearthstone is the first card game I could get into since Vs. Hopefully this new card game will be good enough to continue playing after Gen Con. So far though I'm definitely iffy on it judging by everything I've seen and read.

It seems as though you guys have used HS as a filler for VS. With that being the case, you guys should enjoy 2pcg a whole lot more than HS. I play HS as well and it doesn't resemble VS at all. 2pcg resembles VS a whole lot more.

I definitely wasn't trying to compare VS. to Hearthstone in terms of gameplay. I was just saying that I feel like I need a card game to get into and it happened to be Hearthstone since VS. wasn't around anymore. I don't expect new VS. to resemble Hearthstone at all, just hoping that I will play it regularly like I do with HS.

Agreed Warlock.

The new Vs has A LOT to overcome with me Lemon. My dislike of the text style, people to play against in Hearthstone from the luxury of my home, my initial dislike of the alterations of the game engine, and the $$ differences.

Now the $$ differences is very minimal and my initial dislike of the game engine alterations and text style might subside once I play it. Obviously the luxury of not having to leave my house for the quality of card gaming I get from Hearthstone pretty much can't be toppled. But maybe...just maybe, this new card game will be more fun that I possibly imagined that it will offset it.

Only time will tell :).

Oh yeah, I totally get that. I have played WoW, Shadow Era, MtG, and now HS. None of them compare to VS, which I am sure you guys feel the same. I was just saying that I am sure you guys will enjoy 2pcg a whole lot more than HS, since it will feel a good bit like VS!
