Honestly, I gave up on VS. coming back like three or four years ago. I was never looking to add anything more to my old VS. decks. The times I had playing VS. were some of the best but that's over now. Sure I was excited last year when they announced the relaunch but the second they mentioned changing things, I gave up that hope. The past is in the past. I've decided to treat this relaunch as a completely new game. I'm ignoring the VS. logo on the boxes. This is something new and I will judge it as such. Hopefully, it will be something that I can enjoy just as much as VS. but only time will tell. I think waiting and seeing is all any of us can really do at this point. |

The distribution method has jack and shit to do with them changing the mechanics, they even say that in the article you obviously haven't read. They say VS was inaccessible, and too hard. We got the big hug last Summer, now we see it was BS. I just see no benefit to UDE to butcher the rules. They have a proprietary ground up Marvel card game. Now they released another one. Both fixed packaging. Both Marvel. What are new players supposed to buy? VS players are pretty much getting the worst as they led us to believe last Gencon we would at least be able to use the product they sold us in non sanctioned games. Cant wait to see them at gencon this year. |

Let's pick this article apart some. So only Locations can be used in the resource row. Everything else is dead? Does that sound like manna to anybody? I don't play Magic, but that's the bell it rings for me. It sounds like there's still exhausting, but no endurance loss, therefore no need for reinforcing? Then you lose when your main character is KO'd? A ranged character can't be stunned back unless it's attacking another ranged character? Weird. But flying characters can be stunned back by anything? EDIT for two more thoughts: 1) Did the talk of "main characters" and "supporting characters" make anyone else think of Marvel Superstars? 2) Is it just by chance they posted this late in the evening? Locations are purely mana for character "Super Powers", though this quote from the article suggests that some sort of permanent recurring effects may still exist:
No need for reinforcement, since there's no breakthrough. You lose when your main character is KO'd, but they generally have to be KO'd five or six times, and we don't know how tough they will be. Presumably, flying characters can be stunned back as normal. Didn't see anything to suggest otherwise. |

As far as Legendary v. VS System goes - one is a board game that uses cards to play, and one is a card game. Completely different. |

This irritates me no end. The game they are giving us is not VS. it is another variation on magic or maybe a magic war hammer cross breed. But not VS. I could have accepted most of what they said but not getting rid of the shared turns. And what is so hard about using plot twists in the resource row.? If people are that dumb that they can't figure that out I don't want to play with them anyway. I was so hopeful they they would finally get it right with as much fun as legendary is. Who knows maybe this will be fun but I can seem to separate their lies from the game. |

So... it's safe to say that they never intended to give us VS System back now? Cause I clearly remember people having something to say when I foreshadowed this last year. |

'No, no!' said the Queen. 'Sentence first—verdict afterwards.' 'Stuff and nonsense!' said Alice loudly. 'The idea of having the sentence first!' 'Hold your tongue!' said the Queen, turning purple. 'I won't!' said Alice. Off with her head!' the Queen shouted at the top of her voice. Nobody moved. 'Who cares for you?' said Alice, (she had grown to her full size by this time.) 'You're nothing but a pack of cards!' |

Ya know guys, if Elvis came back from the dead with a new great show at Las Vegas, he'd be boo'd out of town for not delivering the old tired hits of the past. Dead superstars live on frozen in the minds of their worshipers who morn the past forever. The past should be left in the past and learned from. VS never would have stood still had it been given a real go ahead to develop into the future. It was dying in its last years but kept alive on ER life support measures and was put into an underfunded dark corner until it flatlined. The VS design team worked to kept it going up to the end but really it had been gutted from a staff and budget point of view for a while. Now its been many years since the 2009 death. Its 2015...life in the card gaming world is very different and player expectations are very different. The 451 remaining hard core VS players, myself included that have clung to the corpse of this dead game don't really amount to a very impressive market to pander to. The idea that we got a new VS game that only ressembles 50% of the original is more than I expected. I feel that there are key elements in this new version of the game that keep alive the spirit of the classic we loved. We are now sitting in the future guys. I personally am excited about the new VS game and look forward to test driving it. I will still play the old classic with the one remaining player in my city. I have an extentive collection of classic VS cards and prize it. But I long for a similar game that has real living players to have matches with at a Hobby Store. In the glory days VS in our city had 30 to 40 Players regularly. This new game may bring us to that point again with the spirit of VS alive in its cards. That's a nice hope. So get real guys. If god came down from heaven with a new VS game you would still complain and dismiss it. Nevertheless, please continue complaining and fighting over what is and isnt a VS game. I'll pull up a chair, grab some popcorn and enjoy the show while I wait for my new box to arrive. I needed some entertainment during the wait. Oh and here is my foot in case people want to chew on me for this post. Chew away. My skin is thick. |

My complaint isn't with the mechanics of this new game, it is in the fact that it is a new game and thus shouldn't have been called VS. Nor should Upper Deck have been promoting it like it was just an updated/cleaned up version of VS. This is not the same beast, similar, but in the same way that VS is similar to MTG (a totally different game). Here I thought Elvis was coming out on stage, or at least an Elvis impersonator, and instead it was Elvis Costello. Now I may dig the concert regardless, but they should have been clearer up front. That being said I will still give it a shot. |
