Under the rules as we know them so far, the game can play just fine without the colored resources. The distinction is that if you want to make use of them in gameplay, you'll have to build your deck around it. Your choice. You can still play the characters without them and build the deck that you want to make. It's really that simple.
The next to last sentence is what I find impractical. Why wouldn't you put locations in your deck to make use of your MC's abilities? I mean if all you want is a vanilla body with decent stats then sure, go for it. I'd rather have a decent-size character with abilities I can actually use. If the ability is powerful enough to warrant it then I don't see the harm in splashing for a second color. If I can use Star-Lord's second ability multiple times in one game, sure I'll toss in some red locations to make that happen.

@OMB:
I actually don't think the symbol on that PT is an energy symbol. I think it's the same symbol that's on Wolverine's first ability, the one that means you can use it on anybody's turn. I could be wrong and maybe it does cost 1 blue energy but it looks like the "any turn" symbol, same symbol that's also in its text box.

Oh! I forgot that they said plot twists can't be played from the resource row anymore. This whole time I was under the assumption that plot twists still worked the old way.

You're totally right.

@plaid_warlock
Remember that this is still VS System (kinda) and that there are other things to build your deck around outside of your main character's payment powers. Team stamped and legend cards should still be a thing, team strategies should still be a thing. Your main character isn't the end all be all of your deck. They're just your lose condition.

That said, now that I remember that locations are the only live cards in your resource row (unless reservist comes back, which seems unlikely given how they write abilities now) it seems more practical than ever to toss in a healthy amount of locations to keep from sacrificing other cards.

You seem to be totally right about that.

Eesh, this redone resource system will take some getting used to.

@plaid; Yeah, you are right. The combat symbol has 3 broken lines while the blue is a circle so it seems the plot twist is this game's version of reset but team stamped.

As OMB mentioned about the mana flood/screw issue... drawing 2 cards per turn mitigates that a bit.

Over the course of a 6 turn game, you will see almost 1/3 of your deck so even running 4 copies of 1 location could work.

Not to mention you can draw even more with certain characters out. Maybe there will be a location search card since locations are more vital?

Personally hoping for less search and more Genius characters (like my personal favorite Beast) to get the cards you need.

We will probably see more themes that care about finding certain types of cards, like how Loki likes plot twists.

Then when new cards debut, it's not a bunch of parasitic cards that they can't use in their old deck,... create components that are backwards-compatible while still having restrictions, therefore variety in decks.

It's not the only way to design a game, but it's a good one. ...

And hopefully should help with the checklist and speculating what could fill those numbered slots.

True. Between Emma and Beast alone X-men have a nice draw game going. Hopefully other teams get some love. Loki is amazing too but comes in late game. I just hope villains can stall enough to abuse him.

You may be right. I just saw a weird symbol so I just assumed it was one of the Energy colors (especially because it seems like a bomb effect), but then again I also forgot that there will be a lot less flexability on when you can play things.

They answered my question about Beast's ferocious ability. It very much IS an ability that will show up on other cards. It's just called Ferocious.

Quote:

If Beast team attacks (and he’s the only Ferocious character in the combat), he’ll strike the defender first. If that’s enough to stun the defender, that will end the combat. If it’s not enough to stun the defender, he’ll still get to add his ATK to the other attackers’ when everyone strikes at the end of the combat. (It’s like the ATK he struck with still applies to the defender.)

If Beast gets melee team attacked (and he’s the only Ferocious character in the combat), he’ll strike before the attackers. If he has enough ATK to stun an attacker, that will remove that character from the combat, and then combat will continue normally. Then the remaining attackers will strike Beast. (Beast doesn’t get to strike a second time.)

If Beast attacks Beast they’ll strike at the same time.

Note: There’s no window to play Plot Twists or use Super Powers in between when Ferocious characters strike and everyone else strikes.

What does that mean for speedsters? What kind of ability will they get?

My guess would be something similar to double strike or an ability where they attack as if they have flight and range and can't be stunned? Seems a little op to me but speedsters usually are.
