All that out of the way. Spider-Man looks like he has some potential. Cable...not so much.
Obviously we still have no real feel for the stats in this game since they are all over the place based on the previews, but he seems sort of like a souped up Red Skull. His big backend means that you will probably have to team attack him and if you do and they have the Red energy for him he's going to be taking everyone down with him. That's a pretty good trade.
Not quite; he doesn't have the "any turn" symbol for his ability, so no two for ones.

I will laugh hard if in a couple of years stalling decks dominate the meta and tournaments.
I will be shocked and amazed if this game last "years". If it does, good for them but I just don't see it. The game design just seems to bland. But I'll be able to state that opinion more concretely in 3 days. Or I could very well be blown away once I get the cards in hand. Time will tell.

The IGN article was interesting:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/07/28/vs-systems-strategy-to-compete-with-magic-yu-gi-oh-and-pokemon-dont

Brenner talks about how they came up with this version of the game but he mostly describes going the LCG model rather than the booster pack one. He doesn't really get into the whys of changing the engine.
Because he doesn't know the reason (or like I've been told he wanted to do a WoW TCG card game with superheroes, but he can't really admit that....). He has 0 clue about what the game is about, he is just hoping to get money from it. It's interesting to see his point of view, and realize that almost all his problems with the game were about distribution and not with the system.

Isn't this the same guy who said we were getting Vs back at Gen Con 2014?

If so things he says can be taken with a grain of salt.

Yeah yeah yeah I know...let it go. [grumpy].

Yes he is. He has Neither Cable or Spiderman looks deckbuilding material to me.
i agree with you with spidy. his ability has no real winning image out of stall which other decks can do better with just the cards preview so far.

now cable i highly disagree with you. he is a great trump card against hulk decks (which if you havent been testing is the currently the best deck out of the already preview cards) very splashable in decks having trouble getting over 10+ defense and running red or xman wild locations. its even an anwser against thanos.. dont sleep on cable. out side of think again. nothing stops him on offense with a red in hand. remember its been confirmed even if he is stunned in on offense you can still use his "ultimate soldier " power. plus that high def and range he can stick around longer.

The decision on the artwork for Cable is atrocious. Not because it's Rob Liefield, but because it's a horrible composition. It looks like a typical fan-made card, not something from a professional.

Im not sure if this is a "new" rule to VS.
As far as I know VS 1.0 ATK/DEF values worked excactly the same as how they explained it here for 2PCG.

Example from CRD 104.1b
Quote:

Example: You control Savage Land, which reads, “Activate >>> Target Brotherhood attacker you control gets +1/-1 this attack for each resource you control.” You use Savage Land’s payment power on Toad while you control three resources. Toad was 3 ATK/2 DEF and now is 6 ATK/0 DEF, except for the purposes of further changing his DEF. For the purposes of further changing his DEF, Toad’s DEF is -1.
Oh wow, I must have confused it with Magic's rule this whole time. My mistake.

How did that not break the "Pay X ATK" powers from MTU?

Because you still can't pay what you don't have (can't pay into the negatives).

Agree on the Cable art. I mean using Liefeld is whatevs. He helped create the character and I'm sure still has fans, but it's just a torso on a blank field. Calling it a typical fan card is an insult to typical fan cards.

I'm sorry, but I'm being totally honest about fan cards. It's not their fault, they don't need to know about the principles of composition.

Honestly, I remember alot of the compositions in old VS getting pretty bad once they stopped commissioning original art for the game.

Well, if Legendary can make it multiple years, I think this can too.

It will depend on the strength of its expansions, the first one that was hinted at in the IGN article is Aliens v Predators.

That may give this game more legs as you can play it with other properties, not just comic book ones.

Can't wait to build a Hello Kitty Beatdown deck. [grin]

There is a twitter picture of the box that mentions expansions every 3 months - and there is a card we haven't seen on the box but can't make out the picture.

I think it's Ultron. It's definitely a Villain character that has flight and range, possibly one health. It has two abilities but that's about all I can see.

And I'm sold.

Guardians vs Aliens is now a possible thing, and that's all I ever wanted from this whole ordeal.

See I'm of the opposite train of thought. I think once they leave comic book material they are gonna see a substantial dip in purchases. Even if the game is more enjoyable for me than I am anticipating I doubt I will touch any non-comic book set other than Aliens vs Predator and Firefly.

Based on what? The most popular games in this genre have zero to do with superheroes, so a blanket statement like "once they do anything outside of superheroes people will stop buying" just looks silly.

Speaking only for myself, I'm one of the folks he's referring to, as I've no desire to buy cards from the other properties that are being mentioned. I don't necessarily think that hurts the game, I play Legendary and the Encounters branch of the game is doing fine without my business.
