Thanks to OnyxWeapon for fixing the 'Create new thread' bug.

So it looks like there already over 150 players registered for the $10k so it should be a diverse field of players/decks.

This meta will be interesting as this will be the first Vs tournament that only has a few days of prep (well... unless there is a spoiler-gate I am not aware of), every player has access to ALL cards and this is a different engine.

Seems like every team has a chance to win and while I would think mono decks will prevail, splash decks have a good chance too. I like Villains and Guardians to be dominant.

x_chan thinks there will probably be some Hope Summers abuse deck.

What do you think will dominate the meta?

I think this is one time when I wish I was at GenCon Indy (I was at GenCon LA when they debuted Vs in 2004).

I really hope they keep this tournament system for every future set. Avoid revealing cards until the tournament releases (previews are fine) so all players will have the same "time" to build their decks. It's the closest the new game will have to sealed formats. Have a parallel tournament or a (day two) follow-up one when cards from other sets are legal to play.

That could actually work for local tournaments as launch events to bring people in.

As regarding the meta. I'm not really sure what can work. There's lots of cards we don't know how to work, and without a real FAQ, we don't even know if cards like Hope can be abused or not.

There's lots of powerful effects that don't really have cost associated to them, which makes me worried, but that's because I'm seeing them under the old rules. All the permanent extra resources, Mantis being the best example, are easily splashable into any decks and have no real disadvantadge. Old VS prove those were utterly broken (any resource acceleration system ended up being banned or changed), but maybe this new VS has a way to balance things out.

Cards like Hope seem totally broken to me, since like Mantis, there's no restriction to her powers. Nothing in the past worked like that. If her powers can interact with Deadpool's and there's no limit to them (the rule book and FAQ shown doesn't give me any reason to believe there' one), she will be abused. And even if they had taken actions into it (as retricting Hope's powers so she can't be used from the KO'd pile to avoid Deadpools interaction) every future low (X-Men) drop will probably have to be double checked so it doesn't interact badly with her.

But like Kardkrazy said, if every team has a source of acceleration, copycat character, stun out of combat engine, and combat cancellers, etc. then they are not that powerful, as it will be how the new game is build around.

They cancelled the Win a Box tournament "Attention Gen Con players: There will be no further Vs. System Win-a-Boxes in the Upper Deck Tournament Room. All remaining product will be available for purchase in the Upper Deck booth in the exhibit hall. All remaining win-a-boxes for Vs. System are canceled."

I don't know what to make from it...

They sold out of product in an hour on the first day, most likely because they underestimated the amount they could move. To make absolutely sure that didn't happen again the second day, they cancelled all the win-a-box tournaments and used the boxes to help overstock the shelves at the booth. Does it suck for people who wanted to win their boxes? Sure but honestly I would rather pay $50 and get the box in my hands than pay $8 for the possibility of getting one. That's just me though.

Plaid is most likely right and I agree. You were able to buy 10 boxes the first day so I am sure some people abused that to get extra for friends or to sell.

I hope there will be a coverage of the 10K with matchs and decklists... we ll see if there is are Hope decks.

My first impression about the cards would have been more like a thanos SC ramp deck with star lord MC + nick fury + mantis/ OR stall version
Or a green deck with gamora MC.
Deadpool MC would be great with yondu but I m affraid this deck wont doanything right now, the avengers stall plot break him and i think playing avengers stall cards would be a good optio

So far my fovorite card is Ronan....
if you play yellow you can just break your opponent decisive drop because there is few tutor/accelarators , and he must draw his drop during his next turn...

According to people on Facebook, someone actually bought the 10-box limit on day one and then started selling them for $100 a box. Not sure if that was true or not. I got to the booth around noon on day one and was told they were sold out. They definitely had plenty of product yesterday though.

Reading the event coverage, it seems like most decks are combat (the goal is to KO the MC).

Spears' deck is interesting using Loki's recursion and then a finisher with Thanos.

I mean the goal of the game is to KO the opposing MC... That's the only way to win :P

The FAQ verifies that Deadpool is an auto-win but the metagame breakdown says there are only 3 of him and 0 Gamora.

Most played decks are Starlord and Thanos.

Looks like I was right about decks, most played is Villains Thanos, then Magneto (even Loki) and then second is Guardians, with Starlord being the bulk of the MC.

Poor Avengers, only 15 decks and no Spidey MC.
