I guess they could make a big rule change after a couple releases. I know Heroclix has changed dramatically every year. |

If you imagine it being called something else than it isn't a terrible game. LAck of consistency does make for a more casual friendly environment wich should attract more players. I also think that if they made this game with a completely new name and didn't reference OVS than seeing similar mechanics ppl would rage out. It was a lose lose. Game is OK but needs a bigger card pool. |

So finally played it. It's as I thought, the complexity is in the cards and the play... not necessarily the rules/engine I built Barnes' modified Storm Rush but lost late game as I drew no characters to keep the pressure on and Majestix was Icemaning/Gambiting me and had card draw advantage. Think Again is so frustrating. I think the meta is going to have some interesting decks in the next few months as people test out the different archetypes/MCs/teams. |

I got my copy yesterday. Built some decks and did trial hands. I really wish they left the resource row rules alone. Out of 5 test runs it would have been nice to put my plot twists in the resource row so I did not get hosed on card options. It would not even mess with the location cards as they could reverse the rule where a visible location is considered used. Other than that I like the changes, but the resource row really impacts versatility. I am going to push for that to be a main stay house rule if I get a group going. |

Saw this played in person a bit yesterday by folks in our play group. It didn't look like it was very fun and little counters everywhere plus finding out the year blocks of licenses I could care less about is really off putting. I know someone mentioned it was like the card game WAR and it did to seem to look to play that way a bit, draw hope for the best put a higher number card down they put one down no chain... If I do get it It will have to be on sale or heck it COULD be on clearance before too long....SIGH. |

I'm a little disappointed it won't be more about Marvel/DC as well. Obviously UDE has Firefly and Aliens, so I'm sure the first few years of sets are probably already spoken for. Hopefully UDE will look at other comic book licenses as well. Image, Dark Horse, and definitely more Marvel. |

Finally gave the game a go today. It's solid! What surprised me is how easily a game could go up to 10 resources (unless you're playing an aggro deck). The cards seem very well balanced, and the removal of the formation and resource complications made turns go by incredibly fast. Mission accomplished, there. For now I've only played two decks: One using Thanos and an aggro Deadpool deck. With a good setup, the Deadpool deck could win in four turns. It's a little nuts. Playing Thanos is an interesting thing. Your game becomes reliant on trades while your opponent has the incentive to heighten their defenses to prevent you from leveling up. Thanos gave me a much more sober taste of the game's pacing, and I got a clearer grasp of how the changes have affected the core game, and it's been for the better. The re-balanced stats have made the game less reliant on curving out, meaning less need for searching, meaning success in the game is now more reliant on intelligent gameplay and resource management instead of get-out-of-jail-free cards for when your hand isn't optimum. Not being able to play non-location resources also accomplishes this. It forces you to think, and it forces you to develop skill. (I'll still try out the houserule once or twice, but in my games, thanks to the starting hand of seven and drawing two cards every turn, I never needed to lose a plot twist. It was more common for me to have 50-70% locations in my resource row, and the rest being character cards that were less useful as powerups.) Going under curve is no longer crippling, and ramp decks become a feasible gameplay style that isn't overpowered. This is an excellent change that the old game needed. The resources are a solid concept that add variety to deck construction, variance in gameplay, and require skillful decision making in order to know the best time to use them. It allows the game to have more powerful effects without worry of them being overpowered, as their usage is limited by the deck you build and the cards you managed to draw during the game. I still am not a fan of Locations powering abilities, but that's a superficial nitpick. It accomplishes what it needed. The overall engine plays as well as I expected. It's not perfect, but they did a decent job improving on the issues old VS had. I am happy with this. Hopefully expansions will do nothing but improve on the base game. Nice review Psychotime. I'm going to start playing more games in the next few weeks to see how it is but even Majestix who is a heavy control player seems to like the new engine. |

I enjoy the game. But it's not VS. I didn't go into it thinking it would be VS either. I gave it a fair try completely unbiased and came away impressed that it was fun |

Let's say I'm surprised to see Upper Deck resurrect the game in some way. :O |
