Local 2PCG Events?

Does anyone have any local game stores that will carry 2PCG?

One of the problems with OVS was there wasn't much store level support (meaning, not many stores carried it). Most stores concentrated on MtG and YGO... and after the initial release, less stores carried OVS.

Reading some of the comments on FB, it doesn't look like many stores are even aware of a new Vs. The only store I know of (in SoCal) is carrying it because the owner was a Vs player (Majestix).

Are any of you in areas where your local store will be selling 2PCG and running events?

My local store is spreading the word to other stores to not support Upper Deck in anyway based on how much they are charging stores for their product (approximately 65% of retail as opposed to the industry standard of 50%). This has made it difficult for me to get approval to run stores in my area, but due to my relationship with the owner, he is allowing me once a month events at his store. I still may run weekly league either elsewhere or just "outside the sanctioning of the store", not sure yet. But people need to be aware that Upper Deck's actions regarding pricing could very well negatively affect their player base.

How does Coolstuffinc.com sell a box at $38 if Upper Deck is charging 65% MSRP?

I don't understand where you see an issue?

49.99 * 0.65 = 32.49

37.49 - 32.49 = 5

So they make 5 dollars per box and it's preorder so they just can order what they presell then get a few extras and charge like 40 bucks for each... Such is the magic of online retail.

Since I don't own a store anymore I can't confirm that UDE price but why don't those stores just order from their distributor like Gamus or Alliance?

I think they are still 50% off retail.

UDE could be charging more on direct sales to stores so that the distributors don't get upset but 65% sounds a bit high to me.

yea a local shop in NJ is hosting a release celebration. its called highlander games.. ive never been there but a old group of former vs players go there frequently. so i guess they had some influence on that particular shop in hosting it. my personal local shop. time warp comics in NJ stated they will carry it. since the owner played vs system briefly during marvel origins.

so from what it looks like if there is no connection to old vs system.. then shops are in the blind.. the lack of advertising is concerning...

I would like to debunk the myth that UDE did not advertise for OVS.

Am I the only one who remembers the full page ad for Vs in almost every comic book? The ads in the gaming magazines?

I'm as much a UDE hater as the next hater but I have to agree with this.

UDE did indeed provide good advertising for Vs in the first 2 years of the game. After that they slacked off but those first 2 years I do remember adds (and even Vs cards at times) in comic books and Wizard.

However, as far as 2PCG goes...yeah I haven't seen a single advertisement for it at all. The city I live in holds around 400K people and there is one gaming shop for the entire city (and it is also the only gaming shop in a 50-60 mile radius from the city) and those guys don't even know what the hell 2PCG is.

I remember card inserts for like House of M and stuff. I remember the cards being packed with action figures. I don't recall ever seeing a single ad in a comic book.

I remember lots of ads for MtG and milk though!

I think it depends when you started playing.

Like KK said, the first 2 or 3 years, UDE did tons of advertising in comic books and magazines. If I recall it was heavy on highlighting the $1m Pro Circuit.

I'm so glad I wasn't drinking something or I would have had to have gotten a new keyboard. [laugh]

As soon as I read it I started laughing because I remember those Milk ads more than anything else now that you mention it. God those adds were everywhere back then. lol

My local store, Chicagoland Games, carries it. Looks like they're planning to run two events a week at different locations. The old game had a bunch of players locally, many of whom are still around, and two were in the top 8 at GenCon. Advertising wouldn't have mattered in this case.

This game seems a bit DOA.
Really should of just changed the name to something generic Like PowerWars
since they have some lame licenses along with Marvel. Sigh.
