Well now you are making it complicated:P
Morality is complicated. Even Superhero comics delve into moral ambiguity.

I feel like the designers have been valuing flavor above all else with this game. Yes, it's important to do a good translation of a character's powers or personality into card form. That's part of why I really loved the old game. However, there are also other factors to consider. Ghost Rider and Blackheart could have easily referenced their team names in their cards instead of this good/evil thing. I mean we need more team-stamping in this game to stop the crazy splashing.
I think they tried to limit the splashing with the locations but that didn't turn out that well.

I agree that instead of good/evil they should have used team names but considering how small the sets are, they are probably just trying to keep the decks along the axis of heroes vs villains.

I'm just wondering why they didn't use that distinction instead ('heroes' instead of 'good' and 'villains' instead of 'evil').

I think the hardest part is how to make that distinction. As we've seen people try to define who is good or evil in a AvP set, what about former villains who are now heroes or vice versa? Are there 'evil' heroes and 'good' villains? :)

I'm fine with it, it could cause future design issues but it's an attempt to add some macro stamping so the splash decks are somewhat one side or the other.

Top Deck Player has the rulebook for the Defenders set, with the sample deck lists offering some other characters we have not seen previewed yet.

The facebook page explaining the quality problems from the core set release.

Hey folks, long time no hear, right? Ive been off the boards for a while as I have been dealing a lot more on the business side of things since GenCon. That said, I felt it was important to the community to explain why there are delays with VS System 2PCG.

There is no question that the Core set of 2PCG was completely screwed up for some players who bought it because of chipping on the cards. Unfortunately, because of tight timelines and having a show launch, we literally didn't see the game until it showed up at GenCon. I want to be crystal clear here, this was a printer error and when we approached said printer to explain the issue, there was a lot of back and forth as to why this happened. For Example, they claimed defective paper, bad ink, dull blades, etc. However, at the end of the day, it was a poor release and UD understands that. The printer acknowledged the error was on their part and was adamant that this would not happen again...

Jumping ahead to Defenders, the cards printed weeks ago, and the microscope was on them pretty hard as to not have the same issues as before. Well guess what, same issues were there again. I wont go into the minutia of how many times they have printed the cards to fix the issue(s), but what I will say is that I am not releasing this product until it is done right, period.

Where it stands as of me writing this, the cards are going back on press, we have dialed it in to where the finish on the card is the last issue to be resolved and I will have proofs early next week. If I am satisfied with what I see, the set will be out about a week after that. If not, then I don't have to explain what happens next.

As far as a firm release date, obviously that is dependent on the new proofs next week. And if your thinking, "Just change printers" its as simple as that, it in fact is not. These are competent folks we are working with, this is just one of those things that occasionally happens when you print on paper.

In any case, I hope this clears things up.

I feel like this issue should have been resolved in the four months between the core set release and the expansion release. In any case, it was nice to see him at least explain the reason for the delay of the expansion. Hopefully things get resolved soon.

Update

Update on the card printing. We received the samples as promised and the finish on the cards was not going to work. Here is the info from the factory

"The new coating improved the slip/feel but caused a large change in gloss/sheen vs desired level. It was much less glossy than it needed to be. They have a new coating arriving Friday to test that they think will work. I have encouraged them to get multiple coating samples to test a range as we need a solution asap."

So the next steps are to work at the coating to make the slip feel as it should to the touch. The good news is it looks like A-Force and Defenders will be in your hands really close to one another.

Ill post another update as I get more info.
