It would be remiss of me not to list Jon Meyers as the first Artist of the Moment, for a number of reasons.

  • First: His art adorns a number of the wallpapers I've made for The Kamiza, including two Manhunters, Colossus, and two Elektra wallpapers.
  • Second: His art is the reason I'm addicted to the Manhunters as a VS deck, regardless of whether they're competitive or not.
  • Third: A friend of mine picked up his sketchbook at WizardWorld Chicago for me, so I've been able to scan his stuff a little more closely
  • Fourth: He's actually taken the time to respond to a couple of emails I sent his way. That goes a long way for public relations.

Now, pretty much everything on Jon's site is copyright protected, so I can't go crosslinking pics all over the place, but let me tell you what you'll find there:
Everything.
As an artist Jonboy hasn't limitted himself to a specific genre, with pinups and the like ranging from hip-hop gangstas to Masters of the Universe to characters from Marvel, DC, Image, and even Scarab from Kabuki. There's a bunch of original creations too, which is just plain nifty. Not everything on the site is a complete coloured work, but it's all darn shiny.

For those of us here who play VS, looking at some of his cards you might not have realised that his was the hand behind the stylus. His VS portfolio (which took a huge leap in DGL) includes:
Anti-Monitor, Fiero, Manhunter Infiltrator, Manhunter Protector, Fire Support, Parademons, Erik Josten @ Goliath, Null Time Zone, Faces of Evil, Vengeance, Dracula's Castle, Jackal, Shock Troops, Klaw, Whirlwind, Kang Kross-Roads, Ahab, Werewolf By Night, and the achingly shiny Beetle (the MSM version)

And tied in with the most recent Marvel Legends series:
Taskmaster, Wolverine, Scarlet Witch
Have fun getting that last one, her figure was cut from the line before the series was released in the US. Fie!

That makes 22 pieces of cardboardy goodness bearing Jon Meyer's work. How shiny? Damn shiny.

His work has also recently been included in Hurricane Relief auctions, and if you made it to WizardWorld Chicago you might also have seen his massive (and by that I mean ginormous) banners of the Justice League and their bad guys.

If you happen to be more of an anime nut, he's also put a lot of work into a bunch of Shaman King cards - they're all shown on his ebsite - www.scribble.ws - so I recommend you go watse a few hours there.

Trust me on this- it's worth the effort.

The only thing stopping Jonboy Meyers from being a veritable deity of inky goodness? There's no pics of She-Hulk or Black Widow on his site. When will they learn?????

I got a few cards signed by Jon Meyers at Wizard World Chicago, including a foil Manhunter Protector and a Foil Faces of Evil, I'm really pissed though, that I didn't have any Null Time Zones at the time....

and ya, he's one of the best artists.

He's just protecting his intellectual property, can't fault him for that.
For the wallpapers I've had to take print-screens and go from there.

When all is said and done, though, I still love his stuff. It's neat flicking through his sketchbook.
