Every artist that their... thing. Their style. Something to make them stand out from the crowd. For some it's more subtle, a little twist of the pencil. For others it's as if they looked at everything else out there and said "Nah, I'm doing something completely different".

Enter Dave Devries.

I was lucky enough to first be introduced to Dave's art back in the early 90's with some of the trading cards I was collecting.

It was amazing. Everything else in the set was so defined - hard outlines, bold colours, yadda yadda yadda. Devries' stuff, however, was from another planet entirely.

A quick search of Dave's site will reveal a dearth of Marvel stuff, a smattering of DC stuff, and will show you just how broad his experience is. Video game art, toy packaging, CD covers, even lectures and demos from elementary schools to colleges and art stores.

For the budding artists among us, if you're interested, Dave also goes into his procedure and techniques on his site, giving an insight into just how he puts together nifty art like one of my personal favourites:

... so yeah, if anyone has five grand spare, he's selling the original on the site... tee hee....

Step outside of the defined world of comics and take a gander at something a little more visceral:
Dave Devries.
