Ok I have a bit of confusion here with this character. First here is his first incarnation according to the Official Card Reference Document:
Now here are his 2 other cards from MTU and MUN respectively:
Now I know that the first part of MSM was created before DOR so identities were not available for the characters. My question is this why was the character never fixed? Can I power-up Richard Rider with Nova or the other way around? We all know he is the same character but it actually goes against the rules. Any help will be appreciated. |

The fat and skinny is this, Marvel Developers were mentally handicapped and never quite realigned their thought prossesses with regards to Identity....and for that we must suffer eternally, or as long as we play Vs. So yeah sorry man you are screwed, and so is Ghost Rider. |

Would Red Skull fit in this vein as well? The 3 drop from MTU has the identity of Red Skull with the 3 from MUN are all named Red Skull with different versions. |

Except that the MTU Red Skull is not "The" Red Skull, they actually are different people, so the identity works. And as a side note, our house rules say the Richard Rider and Nova are the same person, as well as Johnny Blaze and Ghost Rider, as well as Black Widow (MUN) and Natasha Romanoff, as well as Clint Barton and Hawkeye. |

A character is only unique by its name. Never by its secret identity nor by its version. You can use Richard Rider <> Nova, Xandarian Nova Corps to power up a Richard Rider <> Nova Centurion, Keeper of the Worldmind, but not a Nova, Richard Rider. The cool part is that you can have a Richard Rider and a Nova in play at the same time.

I would be careful when doing this with Ghost Rider. There are versions of Ghost Rider for Johnny Blaze and versions of Ghost Rider for Danny Ketch. I think a distinction has to be made between the two. Ghost Rider, Danny Ketch Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze Johnny Blaze <> Ghost Rider, Damned |

I wasn't sure how that worked as I hadn't looked into it recently but upon further review Hank is correct. The MTU "Red Skull", was posing as Red Skull during his absence and was later killed when the Red Skull returned. The MUN Red Skulls are one and the same. Johann Schmidt was the original and during a battle were he would have been killed, his mind was transferred into one of his enemies, Aleksander Lukin. |

There are other stuff-ups as well. In addition to the Nova, Ghost Rider and Black Widow mistakes there's ... Thunder (DOR) and Thunder versions (DWF), in which one is male and the other is female and they are in NO WAY the same person. Same thing happened with White Tiger (MAV) and White Tiger (MVL), although at least there is a link there. Then there is Chameleon (MSM and MTU) and Chameleon (DLS) ... different universes even! Hal Jordon <> Spectre doesn't have "The" as other incarnations of The Spectre, which means he doesn't interact with them using cards that reference identity. There may be others that I'm either forgetting about or have overlooked. I'm a bit of a pendant with these things ... I'm even dirty about Venom, Eddie Brock and Venom, Mac Gargan being treated as one and the same. I don't like that Eddie can power up Mac, but Scorpion can't. And I know the arguments that "the symbiote is Venom and the host is not as important", and I could accept that if it wasn't for Spider-Man, Alien Symbiote. Anyway, it bugs me that UDE fixed some errors (Sentinels and Marvel Defenders affiliation mistakes in MUN), but ignore others. Even discounting the subtle mistakes, there are some blindingly obvious ones, like Nova, that could have easily been fixed. Rant much? |
