As I peruse websites such as Cool Stuff, Cards in hand, etc. I noticed that sometimes the foil version is cheaper than the regular version. Both are listed in near mint condition. Any reasoning behind this? I always assumed the foils would be more expensive/popular. Thanks. |

There are only two reasons that come to mind. 1 - I've noticed that with some foils that even though there are no creases, chips, dings, or rips for some reason the "foil" of the card seems to scuff or wear easier or more noticeable than that of a regular card. 2 - Back in the day when we got a foil in every pack it was possible for players to construct decks of all foil cards. Once they limited the foils in MVL it became much harder to do so. I think there is a good amount of players out there who would rather have an all or nothing attitude when it comes to this. |

I'm pretty sure that in many cases...the quantity in-stock of each version dictates the asking prices on some sites...but that's just a guess.

It could be a simple business enticement to get people who otherwise wouldn't give it a second glance to raise sales. |

I noticed the same thing a few months ago and bought quite a bit of Good Guys Deck (Kooey Kooey Kooey, Bwa Ha Ha Ha Ha!, etc...) in foil because the price was the same or lower than the regulars. Not sure why, but i'm not complaining! |

Believe it or not some people don't like foils in their decks. I have to go with the idea that if they have a big stock of cards and they aren't selling the non-foils then perhaps dropping the prices on the foil cards would entice some players into buying. |

Foils - for any game - often have a habit of bending... |

Some websites vary their prices depending on demand. So the foils may initially be a little more. Then when demand for the non-foil increases (as it does with army cards) they usually increase in price pushing the price above the foil's original price. Then after a while the prices stop getting updated. |
