This is a difficult thread to post because I do think that everyone who was and is involved with the making and promotion of the AoA Raid deck had their hearts in the right place. I appreciate this greatly which makes what I have to say even more difficult... I think what has been done could have been done better. Why? Here are my issues for thinking so: - Giving the AoA Raid deck "previews" is treating it as if it were official or should be considered official. I understand the idea of creating "previews" for this set was to hopefully drum up a little attention and maybe get people interested, but it also supports the idea that certain players are taking it upon themselves to support an idea or production of cards, giving themselves the power to do so without question. I think it was a miss step. I don't think anything should be this "backed" until some kind of resolution to a community agreed upon council can come to terms. At least not until all efforts have been realized to do so (which I don't believe they have yet). - Half the art for the cards are stretched and blurred when they don't have to be. If a set is going to have this much attention placed on it from different sites then why not make the set as "acceptable" to as large an audience as possible? Seeing images of these cards with stretched or blurred art is a real turn off and just gives them a novice feel. If you intend to promote these cards as much as possible that means you want players to be into them as much as possible. If you want players to be into them as much as possible then you should want them to look as professional as possible. So far they do not look this way. There really should be no excuse for this. If your making a set with all the intents and purposes of getting players to accept and play, then you should be doing whats right by those people. If the image you want to use doesn't fit or is blurry... find another. If you can't then re-work the card and then use another image. I think it's all about making the best finished product and maximum acceptance. - The time spent making this set and coordinating the "marketing" for it on these sites could have been spent on more important issues that should be addressed first. It's obvious that there was some kind of effort put into the making and promotion of these fan based cards by a few different people. If they could put the effort into this then why did they not focus on other pressing matters? The talk of a council comes to mind. If a council could be determined than I believe that the issues that I stated above could have been avoided or never seen the light of day. I think that the handling of this set in general was a little... preemptive. Again, my best wishes go out to all those involved and I really don't want anyone to hate me for speaking my mind, but those involved must know that if your putting your work out there for a group of people of any size your going to get feedback that you may not like. I'm just trying to state where I and some others think things need to be improved upon and maybe how they can be for the continued future of the community and this game. |

lastchance, your opinions matter man. They truly do. With that said here is my take on the following questions you raised: 1.) Yes the set is meant to be taken in by the community and embraced...but as official...meh, it could be or it couldn't be. I just wanted to give the Vs Community something in the mean time that would peek their interest and keep them interested in some game play. I did however want to make it as legit as possible. Including the set was not just to be a bunch of new cards. It was intended to be, in a sense, a whole new style of game play for Vs dealing with the Raid aspect. 2.) The cards have been corrected. Let's face it, most people are not going to be as turned off to the extreme that you seemed to be by a little stretching of artwork. Given some where worst than others but they have been corrected with the help of the communities feedback which is what we will need to survive. Council or not, the community is what is going to keep this game alive. Even the "Council" will have to take in the communities feedback to ensure things are correct when releasing "official" cards. 3.) If you want to know the truth it took me 2, maybe 3 days, to put together all the previews. Given two of them fell through, but both were for good reason(one member had an over whelming work schedule and even though I relocated his blog date to a different date he was still not able to preview and the other had school that took precedents). I absolutely KNEW, not thought, that there were cards that were going to get picked at and have to be corrected, but let's face it non of us are professional card designers(this excludes you Hero;). I knew the community would help me fine tune the set which was another reason for the previews. I have said it before in other threads and just in case you haven't seen it lastchance, the very first thing in the FAQ is:
This simply means if the play group you play with likes the cards, believes them to be balanced, then play them, if not for any reason you can't. Pretty much EVERY set, "official" or not, will have to be governed as so. But I truly believe there is not one card I made in the AoA Raid Set that can be "abused" outside of the set. I have had one card grab that kind of attention(Unus interacted with the 2-Drop Infinites) but I have corrected this through an errata on the card itself mind you, not the FAQ. That is the great thing about the previews, as I stated, it let the community help me polish up the cards to what they were suppose to be. HeroComplex has helped a ton in dealing with the cards and some others that non have seen. By the way, yes the Previews were meant to grab the attention of the community and I must say that it worked wonderfully. I have actually not had one single true complaint about the Raid Set(other than this thread) and the original AoA Raid Set has recieved at this time almost 900 views and is just over 4 pages deep in critiques, comments and questions. This does not include the other preview threads that have received hundreds of views on here and TCGPlayer. I honestly have to say I believe the community seems to like the set or there would have been more than just this "complaint" thread. I do want to close with that I am NOT upset with you for your opinion lastchance. I want to make sure you understand I am always open to suggestions, criticisms, and opinions. Take care, Kj Edited by KardKrazy, Feb 28 2009, 04:44 PM.

The only thing that I can add is that you can't please everyone. Try as you might there will always be someone that you just can't please. |

KardKrazy, you're already a hero in my eyes for the post that you left. I'm very glad that you didn't take anything that I said personally and I'm certainly glad that people like you have good ideas and are at least trying to do new things to save this game! I have also learned recently that if you intend to put something out over the net for other fans to see expect to get both good and bad feedback. I'm glad to see that there are others out there who are willing to hear what others have to say and are able to make changes based on the responses of those who only wish you and what you produce the best like I have! I hope to see more work from you in the future! |

I am glad you took my response as intended=). I was a little worried I came off as a prick as I was tired when I wrote that and I really did not want that to happen. As for the set the previews wrap up today as Shadowtrooper is coming to you with a late blog(my fault as he wanted verification on the card and I was out with my wife). His preview should be up in a little bit and I think the majority of people will embrace it=). later, Kj P.S: I checked over your watchmen cards and I want to say very nice work just change the way you have the card numbers at the bottom. Like the skewed artwork bothers you, not having three numbers on the card numbers makes me twitch=P. lol. Edited by KardKrazy, Feb 28 2009, 11:16 PM.

Ha! Actually they all had three numbers, but recently a friend of mine tempted me to make just a couple more drops of characters (since there are so few characters on the team). I just did it last night and have not mustered the strength to fix the numbers accordingly (it's a tedious job). I'll probably get to it in the next day or two! :) |

nothing against lastchance as he is a good dude.... I am thrilled that people are out there "doing" rather than waiting for the council to be approved...finished...or embraced....people play testing and creating new air to pump into our game is great...I am glad it happened to be one of my closest web pals! to all: keep those creative juices flowing!!! |

Personally the AoA set has had me more interested in Vs than anything has in a loooooooooooooong time. It is my hope that one day I get to sling some cards with each and every one of the people involved. |
