Ho-kay, Clarification 1 So me and my buddy were playing a few games and I whip out my Wonder Woman, Ambassador of Peace who states: Discard a card {>} Change the target of an opposing effect with exactly one target. (The new target must be legal.) I'm playing against his Avengers Reservist deck. Now he flips Heroes in Reserve: Reveal any number of face-down resources you control. Target attacker or defender you control gets +X ATK this attack, where X is the number of reservist cards you revealed. He reveals 4 character cards and puts the +4 ATK to attacker modifier on the chain. I discard to WW and change the +4 ATK to my defender. He says that's no good, I said the card states attacker OR defender can get the +4 ATK making it a legal target. We spend 20 minutes trying to convince each other... Clarification 2 Same Wonder Woman, different scenario. This time it's turn 4 and I have initiative, I drop WW. He turns and drops Black Panther, T'challa. He reveals 4 reservists and is going to put 4 +1/+1 counters on BP. I discard to WW and change the target to my WW. He says Nay. Since the card specifically says on Black Panther I can only target a Black Panther I control to make it legal. I say the effect targets a single character (Black Panther), but the effect is for 4 +1/+1 counters. He also says anything team stamped cannot be redirected since it's targeting a member of that specific team. Unsure on that one, but I'm pretty sure I am right about her effect at least as far as BP and Heroes in Reserve. I donno, I scooped and played my JLA willpower. Whippin' him 3-1.

Actually the first situation doesn't work but not because of the reason you state. WW, AoP cannot redirect that effect because it says "you control". Because of that, you can only redirect it to another attacker or defender your opponent controls. If it had just said attacker or defender without that second part, you could switch it to your defender. In your second case, Black Panther's effect doesn't target at all:
Because of this, you cannot redirect the effect. You have to pay strict attention as to what you can redirect with Wonder Woman. Think of it this way, if you want to direct an effect to your characters, could you have played that effect on them in the first place? That's a good way to tell. If something says "target Avengers character" and you only control JLA characters, would you have been able to play it if you had the card? No, because there are no legal targets on your side of the board. Same goes for attacker and defender. If a card says "target attacker", you cannot redirect it to your defender. If something says "you control" then you can't switch it to your character. |

Scenario 1: Your buddy plays Heroes in Reserve: Reveal any number of face-down resources you control. Target attacker or defender you control gets +X ATK this attack, where X is the number of reservist cards you revealed. When WW tries to redirect the target but it doesn't work because it is not legal Target . You choose your defender and your buddy doesn't control that defender. Scenario 2: Black Panther reads as follows. You can find this and all official texts on the Official Card Reference document.
So as you see all +1+1 counters go to Black Panther, and WW ability does nothing. ----------------------- WW will not be able to redirect team stamped effects unless the character that she redirects them to shares that affiliation. For Example lets say a friend of yours is playing with Brotherhood and he activates Asteroid M
Now you can try and use WW's ability so that the effect is changed to hr but since all new targets must be legal and she isn't a Brotherhood character then she can't target herself. Now if for some reason your WW had the Brotherhood affiliation because lets say you had What If?, Team-Up teaming up JLA and Brotherhood then yes WW would be a legal target. ----------------------- Things to remember: 1) If an effect doesn't target then WW can't redirect the effect. 2) If the effect is a team stamped effect and your characters don't share the affiliation then WW can't redirect the effect to your characters. 3) If the effect says "target character you control" or something along those lines and you didn't play the effect then WW can't redirect the effect to one of the characters you control. Hope this helps. |

Also, for the Asteroid M example, you can still redirect the effect to another Brotherhood character your opponent would control (the lowest drop). |
