Death Times Five
Set JLA
If target attacker would cause breakthrough while attacking a character this turn, instead, that character's controller loses 5 endurance.

Can someone explain this to me? Who burns for 5? My friend keeps using this on me and says I burn and he takes no breakthrough when i attack him. If its that good then everyone would use it.

The text "that character's controller" is referring to the character that is being attacked.

You can use this effect to your advantage in two different ways:

If I attack Wild Sentinels with Magneto, the Sentinels player plays it and take 5 endurance instead of 15 breakthrough.

I'm defending with Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff, attacked by Thing, Heavy Hitter. The Fantastic Four plays it, and I lose 5 endurance instead of taking 1 breakthrough.
