Ok all, after the inspiring NorCal Vs. Day, Erick and I have decided that it is only natural that we have a SoCal Vs Day. This thread (and post) will be updated on new information, but here is what we have so far: What: SoCal Vs. Day! Where: Majestix CCG (formerly Edgeworld) 2588 Newport Blvd. Ste. C Costa Mesa, CA 92627 949-650-6100 When: Saturday, October 24th (we will also have an event on Friday night, October 23rd) Why: Because we haven't had a "major" event down here in sooo long! ******************************************************** Co-Main Event: Marvel vs. DC Super-Crossover Sealed (last 5 sets of each universe) Time: 10:30am (10:00am registration) Cost: $15 *Modified Swiss rounds (Swiss +1); Final standings determine winners after swiss rounds *Each player will randomly be assigned either Marvel or DC packs (there will be an even amount of each universe), and build their 30-card decks from the 5 packs they receive. Main Event: Silver Age Constructed (Blink 3-drop is banned) Time: 3:00pm (2:30pm registration) Cost: $10 *Modified Swiss rounds (Swiss +1); cut to Top 8 *There will be a playoff for 3rd place Side Events: Marvel Evolution Drafts (4-man or 8-man): $12 *We will wait until 8 sign up unless it is agreed to go with a 4-man draft Legendary Marvel/DC Two-Headed Mutant Tournament (Golden Age): $15 per team *2-man teams; each team plays 1 Marvel only deck and 1 DC only deck *Shared starting endurance of 80; "friendly" applies to teammate as well; normal rules apply (ie, no shared rows/columns/resource row) *This will most likely start in the evening time The good stuff: 1. Each player will receive a Vs. T-Shirt, EA Have a Blast! and other EAs/Hobby League cards for participating in one of the two main events 2. At the beginning of certain rounds throughout the day, I will put 1 pack of Marvel Universe on each table, and the winners of that round will win that pack. 3. The Qualifier winners (read below) will each receive packs of Marvel Universe and/or Marvel Evolution (enough to last the Swiss rounds). Whenever (if) they lose during the Swiss rounds, they have to give up a pack of MEV (Constructed) or MUN (Sealed) to that opponent. 4. Each player will receive a raffle ticket for each event they enter. 5. Random door prizes include: Vs. Cardboard cutouts, Vs. vinyl banners; Vs. playmats, Vs. deckboxes, and even booster boxes! Qualifiers: *We are in the process of putting together 4 "Qualifiers" for the Constructed Main Event. 2 will be held in NorCal and 2 will be held in SoCal. These should be running late September/early October. The winners of each Qualifiers get (in addition to the standard prizes they get at the Qualifiers): 1. Packs of MEVand/or MUN equivalent to the number of Swiss rounds in the main events 2. 1st round bye in the Main Events 3. Free entrance to any and all events held on Friday/Saturday. 4. Winners must be present to receive their packs (incentive to come down NorCal guys!) Friday, October 23rd 1. MEV Drafts starting at 7:00pm: $10 each (prizes are old packs/EAs) 2. Random Punks Silver Age Tournament (Blink 3-drop is banned): $8 *1st place: Random Punks Playmat, Vs. vinyl banner, vs. deckbox, EAs, free entrance to one of the Main Events *2nd: Vs. vinyl banner, Vs. deckbox, EAs, packs (older sets) *3rd-4th: packs (older sets - based on attendance) *Everyone gets at least 1 pack and EAs ******************************************************* The great stuff... Prizes (for Saturday): Main Event Constructed: 1st: $50 Best Buy Gift Card, EA Enemy of My Enemy, box of Marvel Evolution, SoCal Vs. Day Trophy 2nd: $25 Best Buy Gift Card, EA Enemy of My Enemy, box of Marvel Universe, SoCal Vs. Day Trophy 3rd: $25 Best Buy Gift Card, EA Big Leagues, booster box (Silver Age) 4th: Vs. System Playmat, Vs. deckbox, EA Big Leagues, booster box (Golden Age) 5th: Vs. System Gallery packs booster box (Marvel or DC), Rare EAs from MEQ and/or MUL, packs (based on attendance) 6th-8th: Rare EAs from MEQ and/or MUL, packs (based on attendance) Main Event Sealed: 1st: $50 Best Buy Gift Card, EA Enemy of My Enemy, box of Marvel Universe, SoCal Vs. Those wondering, Erick has amassed an incredible amount of Vs product, banners, cardboard cutouts, shirts, EAs, HL cards, it's unbelievable (you'd think it was 2005 all over again!). You wouldn't believe the amount of DCL and MVL SEALED boxes are still at the store, not to mention the amount of MEV and MUN we still have. I will be adding Lodging information and places to eat when I get more info. Oh yeah, we're open late on Friday and Saturday (midnight or later). It will be a great day :) |

What? I thought I got rid of all that stuff at Vs Day earlier this year? Actually... I knew we had some product left and I had planned to hold a SoCal Championships during the summer. Things changed when EW retired and during the inventory check, we found a bunch of non-booster VS-related stuff (and another case of MUN). In addition, all the banners are the ones that were on display during the Sneaks. Are we still doing the pre-Halloween superhero costume thing? |

I think it would be cool to have a costume contest. Luis better come as Deadpool and you better come as BatHulk. |

I wat to give you some feedback from Norcal VS Day. Overall it was a huge sucess. But I felt that there was one major flaw. Having qualifiers for the event seemed like it was a cool idea but in the end I feel that it only held the main event back. It allowed an eaiser oppertunity for the guys who participated in the qualifiers to make top eight at the main event. The guy won won the Sac qualifier played against three players for that event and won all three so that got him into the tho eight. Doesn't seem quite fair considering guys came from LA (or anywhere) could have got in with a 4-2 record but didn't. Thats a lot of work for a bit of let down. I guess I feel that the top eight should be earned the day of the event. I do like how your only giving a bye the first round though. It's not quite the same so it shouldn't have too many complaints if any. I might the only with this concern. I do feel that there shouldnt be qualifiers.......just duke it out the day of the event. That's how Dad did it, that's how Amurica does it and it's worked so far. I do have to say that Sean had tons going on with the event for everyone that wasn't in top eight. So it wasn't like you had nothing to do. It ran very smoothly. Mad props for putting this together. Seems like the prize support is amazing considering were playing a Zombie game. I do feel the date sucks. Sean announced that the next norcal VS day is the weekend after your event. I highly doubt people will attend both events. guess we have to share with you So-cal guys ....nope not goping to happen

I think the qualifiers for this one isn't to get into T8. It's just to get free entry into either main event. But I'm not sure, I'm 2nd banana on this one. |

I'm totally stoked about this. Totally love the abundance of events as well. Really hope that some of the NorCal-ers are able to come down and join in on this fun. I'm also down for seeing peeps in real hero costumes throw down =) Also, DK, isn't the next NorCal day on the 7th? Because if so, that's a 2 week difference, just enough time to recharge and be ready for another VS challenge. |

If you think about it, one event is a hop and a skip the other is a long drive... I don't see what the issue is. Anyone wanna carpool down? We shoudl let Hyrum Savage know about this. Edited by TheDerangedBear, Aug 26 2009, 08:01 PM.
