Here it is! Your chance to give your input as to what format we should run on November 7th at the 2nd NorCal Vs. Day. I will leave this poll open for 2 weeks. Whichever format has the most votes will be the format that we choose. And the best part? You get to vote whether you will be there to play or not. (Just FYI: The tournament will be Golden Age plus one of the formats in this poll.) So make your voice heard and vote! And thank you for your input. |

Hmmm...tough call. Leaning towards "2 sets" just for fun, but I'm going to sleep on it before I vote. |

The next NorCal Vs Day will not have a qualifying round of events...just the event itself on November 7th. The SoCal Vs Day does have 4 qualifiers...2 in NorCal and 2 in SoCal. As for stall, you could always play Spider-Man Clones at the SoCal qualifier in Sacramento. (Or Captain America...) And just because the qualifiers are Clone Saga/Build A Legend does not mean that you CAN'T play stall...it just may be a lot more challenging given what others can play in the given format. And if you choose to play stall at the Bay Area event, you would have to have a Legend in your deck with the right number of cards for the format...but it's still very possible to pull off. You are a decent deck builder, and I am sure you will come up with something original and fun. |

Between the votes here and the few that were mailed in to me, the format will be Marvel Vs. DC Vs. Hellboy. There will be a prize for the best deck from each group. All cards must come from the group you choose: Marvel or DC or Hellboy. Reprints are ok to use as long as the card was printed as a card from that group at one time or another. (Mobilize can be used for DC or Marvel, but not Hellboy.) Questions? See you all November 7th! |

Format is: Marvel Vs. DC Vs. Hellboy. Whatever deck someone makes, the cards must all come from the same prefix as that Company. M for Marvel, D for DC and E for Hellboy. Commonly asked questions: Q: 'Can I use a DLS Mobilize in a Marvel Deck since Marvel printed a Mobilize as well as DC?' (Same goes for 'Blindsided' or any other card that was printed on both the DC and Marvel side.) A: Yes you can! Q: 'Does every card seriously have to come from the same group as the company I choose?' A: Yes, seriously (except in the case of question 1) Q: 'Are there different prizes for the winner in each group, Marvel, DC and Hellboy?' A: Yes, there prizes for the Top DC, Marvel and Hellboys decks: Two will win those prizes (for top deck in format) and the third will be the overall tournament winner and there will also be a prize for sportsmanship! We will also have Coming of Galactus games and mini-deck matches for those who bounce out or drop from the tournaments early, so bring a deck for those or be ready to buy a couple packs of cards. (They will be selling packs at 2 for $5 all day!) And bring stuff to trade...there will be plenty of table space! |

The Main Event Format: Marvel Vs. DC Vs. Hellboy. All cards in your deck must come from one of those 3 groups. Cards reprinted can be used in the original or reprinted group with either version of the card. (examples: Flying Kick, Blindsided, Mobilize, etc) Time: Noon registration (we begin at 12:30 sharp) Cost: $10.00 Prizes: There will be random door prizes of packs of cards, EA cards, MAA/DCX/MUL/MEQ cards The top player in each group, Marvel/DC/Hellboy, will win a choice of packs, playmat, T-Shirt or EA cards. Mini-Cross Madness! Format: Marvel Vs. DC minideck matches Time: All day long Cost: $5 Prizes: The top 2-8 (depending on the number that play) will win packs of cards, EA cards, MAA/DCX/MUL/MEQ cards Special Rules Construction: Each player will choose two packs of cards from either DC or Marvel. Both packs must be from the same group. You do not have to choose packs from the same set. Each pack will have a point value assessed to it. You use all cards from both packs to make a 28 card deck. Affiliated Character Cards are considered to have all affiliations. Play: When you win a match, you gain the number of points that your opponent’s deck is worth. The winner will be the player with the highest point total, not the most wins. (Quality wins are the key.) The Coming of Baldman! Format: Test your skill against ME personally, as you and 2-4 friends take on one of my Custom Built ‘Coming of Galactus’ decks: ‘Denial’, ‘Destroyer’s Army’ or you can play against The Original Unmodefied deck....if yer chicken! (And ya better bring butter, because you’re likely to be toast!) Time: All day long Cost: $1 per player Prizes: Per player – 1 pack of cards or 1 MAA/DCX/MUL/MEQ card or 1 EA card if you win. Those who do not win get to see me dance in slow motion as I celebrate my victory. (That’s almost a threat…) Plus, those who do not win will receive a card for participation. *Tables for trading all day. *Special Discounts on Back Issue comics! *Packs of cards 2/$5! Marvel Knights, Web Of Spider-Man, Marvel Team-Up, The Avengers, Marvel Origins, DC Origins, Legion of Superheros, Green Lantern, Justice League, Man of Steel. *Special Discounts on certain marked product! *Singles for sale...priced to sell! Ask to see our many binders. *Sleeves, deck boxes, 9 pocket sleeves are all available for sale! Show up and play! Show up and trade! Show up and have fun! |

Another great day! Thanks Sean and Bonnie!! :) My cards may have run hot or cold (no in-between today), but my love for your dedication to keeping this game alive and fun has not! For those interested, there were 16-18 people I think (I never stopped to count, it could have been a few more or a few less). I played Marvel (FF) and I only faced Marvel in my 6 rounds, but I know there was some DC in the house (and I think there was only one Hellboy deck). I'm sure The Baldman has a better idea of the breakdown. Edited by carlosthedwarf, Nov 8 2009, 06:23 AM.

Good turn out for this time of year, as we head into these holiday seasons I know its harder to get groups together, but it also looks like we have a nice crop of event coming up next year. |

24 players for the Main event, 12 for the Mini-deck Madness, No Time for Galactus matches Shawn Polka won the overall constructed and Marvel side with his deck (Warbound/6-0). Michael Brenden won the DC portion of the contest and finished second overall (5-1, only loss was to Shawn Polka) The next bit is what puzzled me the most: The Hellboy player with the best record was...#14 overall James Martin. I will see if I can get lists of the decks to put up here. I believe the top 8 were 5 Marvel and 3 DC decks. * * * And for the play of the day, Glen managed to exhaust 8 of 9 Sinister Syndicate characters on turn 5 with his Spider-Man deck. (That's what Spider-Man does, right?) (And just FYI, I did the math... Syndicate could have done that on turn 4 if it had dropped perfect: 1 one drop on turn 1, 2 one drops on turn 2, 1 three drop on 3, 2 three drops on 4 [Mysterio with boost], 2 one drops and a four drop on 5 [Carnage with 1 free point and Fisk towers effect].) This occured on turn 5. But, Glen countered with: use of effect from 4 drop Spidey from previous round reruit, Substitute in a second 4 drop Spidey, use of effect, use of Gift Wrapped, and then recruit of 5 drop Spidey and Gift Wrapped. What was left was one Mysterio with +4 ATK (for a total of 8) that could not get through the 'ghetto-bootied' 5 drop Spider-Man (9/10). * * * The top Marvel/Dc/Hellboy players had their choice of a Marvel/DC Lead Figure or a Playmat...Michael Brenden and Shawn Polka chose the Playmats (Thor and DC Legends respectively) and James Martin chose to go with the Statue. The Top 8 other than Shawn and Michael got choice of some of the rarer EA cards we have left over from our glory days of the Hobby Leagues. I know that an EA Boris and an EA Detective Work were two of the prizes picked by players in the top 8. Everyone got 1-4 cards as a random door prize...most from the more recent Hobby League cards we have left over, but others were decent or mid-level rare foils mixed in. Players had their choice from what was available. * * * All in all, the event was fun and well attended. Unfortunately, we missed the players from Washington State and SoCal that would have put us at 30 the player mark, but I will just advertise locally a little better and a little earlier next time I run an event and get a few more of the locals who couldn't make it due to scheduling conflicts. (The kids gotta come first=) Thanks to everyone who attended! |
