I dislike having banned cards, but a strong argument might convince me it is necessary for a tiny # of cards in a particular contructed deck format.

Having new formats for contructed decks (Bring your own Set, Duel Legends, Ordered Monks) is fun and challenging. The best one or two decks will eventually emerge for ANY contructed deck format. When they do just move to another format.

When it comes to competitive play (tournaments), sealed or draft formats are ALWAYS going to be better than constructed. It is the best way for finding out who are the good players (while still having fun).

Any large tournament (especially the largest, ie the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP) should be a combination of all 3 (sealed, draft, and constructed).

Golden Age VS...works only on a casual level with players that generally don't build to win. Sad but true fact.
Yeah, that's got a lot to do with why I'm not really doing much with VS any more.

Now see we had 12 show for Golden Age, and that's the best turn out we've had in a while. It was highly competitive and yet still fun. I know a lot of folks who still enjoy building and playing against the best decks vs can produce.

I am reading this thread 3 months late, but I can't believe some of you guys think MOR is overpowered. I mean, it set the standard for knowing how the game worked.

Yes, Reign of Terror is retarded (and I think it should be banned), but other than that I don't think MOR has any more ridiculous power cards than any other set. Beatdown and TNB are the next worst things, and there are simply lots of ways to get around a high attack number after 18 sets.

Don't get me wrong, I think the play environment could benefit from a selective overall look at banning particular cards. But other than MCG (does that even count as a real set in most people's minds?) and maybe MEV, I don't think the removal of any entire set would make people enjoy the game more.

I completely agree with this breakdown. It's a great way to get use out of older cards without opening up the whole cardpool. It also keeps teams seperated from refeatures of themselves (ie MOR, MXM, and MVL all feature X-Men, but would all be in different formats).

Plus, all 3 ages have 6 sets, which works well, ensuring there are plenty of generics available for whichever deck you build. All ages have access to hidden hate, equipment hate, weenie hate, etc.

You could even combine this with Aaron Mead's idea of 'Bring Your Own Modern'. Run an event where people could bring decks from any of the 3 ages, as long as they only had cards from their chosen age.
