Just kind of curious as to what is considered an effect for abilities such as BPRD Signal Device.

Plot Twists, Payment Powers, Activated Powers, Triggered Powers????

I understand targeting, it is just "effect" is a very broad term and I am curious as to whether Signal Device stops as much as it seems.

Thx, Vampire

Type up "Effect" Question on the search and you'll see an excellent response from Herocomplex regarding this. Do what I did and photocopy it, it's great when your opponents doubt you. ;)

Ok, I just tried it and it doesnt work for some reason...here's the link...

Nice, that saves me some time.

As an additional point, anything that targets---in other words, anything that uses the word "target"---must work by generating an effect. By definition, targets are only chosen during the process of playing an effect. The explanation that manwithoutfear linked to helps give you an understanding of powers and effects more broadly, so hopefully it helps on that front.

But as with his Pathetic Attempt question, yours also has a more immediate answer. You don't actually need to run a separate "effect" analysis for Pathetic Attempt or BPRD Signal Device---if you've confirmed that something targets, then you already know it's an effect, and it will fit into one of the categories outlined in that linked post.
