Pretty much, if you can't recover it, unless it also cannot be KO'd, then they die.
wait wait wait...so your telling me you can't just leave one stunned character in play you have to KO all?
If you enter recovery with one stunned character, you get the choice: Do I go to the next turn with a full board, or do I KO this stunned character? If you have more than 1 stunned character, you only get to pick one of the stunned characters to keep, assuming you even want to keep any of them [which is likely].

Barring specific card text, like Lazarus Pit or something.
ok, so that means you can keep a stun character that can't recover in play correct?
Not unless it also can't be KO'd.
Alright so to keep a character( without "can't be ko'd") it has to be able to recover?
no ... it just needs to have the [can't be KO'd] clause. Card's that do it: Lazarus pit, Leslie Thompson's clinic, Demonic Embryo, a few other underworld tricks. So unless you use one of these on someone who can't recover, they die. Using these cards is the only way to keep stunned characters from KO-ing and to have them carry into the next turn in the stunned state.
yea...i got it!
