from my experience the best way to lose weight is to WALK. I've lost 50 pounds just walking over the course of a few months. I used to walk to a movie theatre that was a 2 hour walk and 2 hour walk back great times! If the heat wasn't soo horrible here I'd start back up again :)

Whatever happened to drinking a lot of water, doing daily exercise and eating salad instead of steak twice a week?
Have they made water that tastes like Mt. Dew yet? Once they do that I'll be golden. Also steak doesn't make you fat, bread makes you fat.

That's exactly how I did it. The only thing I take daily is a multivitamin to make sure I'm not putting my body at a deficit since I'm not eating as much as I used to. I stay under 1467 Calories a day, and I haven't touched any other drink besides water for the last 4-5 months. OK I lied, I need my coffee fix in the AM otherwise [zzz] .

I'm ashamed to say I actually hit about 312 pounds, but I'm down to 260 now and working at losing more. Goal is to hit around 220; I've got a pretty broad build so I think I'd have to get sick in the hospital to crack 200.

This is exactly me! I'm on a 1500 calorie diet with a mutli-vitamin. I allow myself a a cup of coffee in the morning a Mt. Dew in the afternoon.

P90X once a day.

Funny how similar our 'routines' are!

1500 cals a day as a guy is gonna destroy your metabolism in the long run, don't do it. Never stray below your weight in lbs * 10 calories; so unless you weigh 150 you're in for a world of hurt and weight loss will include muscle destruction. Just eat natural foods (as little processed as possible) and get some exercise (walk, run, lift, whatever) and you'll be great.

Thank you Mr. Atkins.

Calories consumed > calories burned makes you fat.

What CB (ironically named?) said. Higher carb diets have a higher percentage of success, and one of the thinnest cultures in existence (the French) eat bread every morning (they practice heavy portion control). Calories are ultimately the determiner of your weight gain and loss, excercise and types of food are important for your long-term health (excercise stops breakdown of body, and our bodies for whatever reason simply don't understand how to turn chemical "foods" into useable energies). People who start trying to measure %s of cals from fat/protein/carbs are trying to take something very simple and turn it complicated.

Well basically here's what I did. I also have Insanity (same company that puts out P90X) in the diet guide they have a formula to figure out your daily caloric needs. While your not on a low fat, low carb diet, since the body uses that for fuel. You figure out how much your body needs to maintain your daily weight and subtract 500 from that. I'll post the formula here also a link to a site that goes into a bit more detail.

for women, start with 655, and then add your weight in lbs multiplied by 4.35. Then add your height in inches multiplied by 4.7, and subtract 4.7 times your age in years.
For men! Start with 66 (not a typo) plus your weight in pounds multiplied by 6.23, then add 12.7 multiplied by your height in inches, and then subtract 6.8 multiplied by your age in years.

So, for example, me: 66 + (6.23 x 196) + (12.7 x 70) - (6.8 x 35) = 1848.08 calories to maintain my weight while doing nothing at all.

Once I start again, I'll up my intake because my activity level has changed. So I would multiply that number by 1.7 being I'm working out 6-7 days a week. So my total would now be 3141.74 (1314.736 Rounded up) That is to maintain weight while heavily exercising, now minus the 500 for the weight loss. Brings me to a total of 2641.74 daily intake.

Confusing, I know, once you read the entire book you'll understand how it beaks it down and why.

Actually that's a popular formula, I'm familiar with it via You: the owner's manual. But even at the lowest level of activity you're supposed to mulitply by 1.2.

For the record, this thread has encouraged me to borrow a copy of P90X just to try it out; I do want to improve my cardio / core, and love trying new routines. Have heard a lot of the challenges of this routine, and want to try it, even if I don't want to lose weight :).

Great, good to hear something came out of Hijacking this thread. Since there is a few of us taking the road to better health maybe we should start a thread so we don't veer this one off topice any more. Oh and also, like I mentioned in a previous post I have a great XLS spreadsheet that gets very detailed. I can send it to you if you want. I use it to keep track of everything day by day.

If the spreadsheet is relevant to P90X, by all means, davidleader@hotmail.com . If it is a food tracker, I use Livestrong, which both has a good iPhone app and tracks the calories / nutrition of any food I eat without me having to estimate. I'm averaging a little over 2K calories; I excercise 3-4 times a week with a goal of gaining muscle and have a hike once a week but am otherwise physically inactive. On Saturdays I allow myself a sugary treat, which is typically Gelato at the local Juicy Green (225 calories for 6 ounces, amazing for such a tasty treat). I am vegan outside of organic foods, since I am a huge followenof Pallin and, well, most restraunt eggs / milk / meat are "disgusting". At home I do eat meat, but rarely (another principal of Pallin's). I'm happy to branch this discussion if someone wants to start a new one, but am too lazy to do so myself. Besides, have you read this? It's been jacked like 900 times already :).

Yes, it's for the P90X and it's quite well done. I know beachbody has one I tried using and ugggghhh. It was more confusing then anything.. I found this one and it works so much better. All you do is enter your start date it calculates all of your marks (30, 60, 90, not too difficult). Also, by placing you mouse over the date it tells you what routine you do for that day. Click on the day and a new speadsheet opens up when you can keep track of your reps and how much weight you used. So you can see you progress over time. I was amazed I went from falling on my face the first time to doing 8 one handed push up. [grin] not that I needed a chart for that but still felt good none the less. So yeah look for that later tonight I'll send it off once I get home. I also use livestrong, So you can send me a friend request as well there too. Same name as here....Reavon.

Somewhat old thread, but still interesting, and it was old before I got here, so I'll contribute.

My name is John and I'm currently a college student in Oklahoma. Getting my undergrad in business, then I'll hopefully get my J.D. and be a lawyer (Just like good old Matt Murdock!)

I've played MTG for a few years, and dabbled in other cards games before that ( Proud member of the Pokemon generation, here.) Just discovered VS a few months ago, through a friend and as a big comic book guy, I like it.

Outside of that, I collect and read comics, play and write music, and I was captain of the academic team in high school.
