I'm also aethiest, but not the crazy kind that goes out of their way to belittle anyone who does beleive in whatever they believe in. Just like I can't stand the crazy religious people who try to force their beliefs on me as well. I think if people spent a little less time worry about what others think, believe , or do between them selves and consenting adults, and alot more time on making sure they are the best they can be, the world would be a better place. |

I find myself strangley agreeing with Cyke here, at least in part. It does nothing to promote Christianity if "christians" go about condemning everyone. That only turns off anyone who might otherwise be willing to take a look into what Christianity is all about. Christianity at it's core is a religion of Love. Christ forgave sins, so who are we to condemn where Christ wants to forgive. However, Christ also admonished his followers to preach Christianity to the world, but it's not about forcing anything on anyone. Christianity is a choice that has to be made not forced or fed. It's my responsibility to care about my fellow man and let them know about the hope I believe in based on the Bible. It's their choice as to whether or not they will accept what has been offered. And if they decline to accept the hope I believe in, this does not end any relationship I've had with them. They are welcome any time. Unfortunately, there are those "nutcases" as I like to fcall them that Cyke refers to that give a bad name to Christianity. |

Also, UncleChewie, there are nutcases on all sides, there are nutcase christians, Nutcase Muslims, and nutcase aethiest. You know the ones that go out of their way to make fun of religious people. the ones that thinks it's funny to go into book store and move the bible into the fiction section. Let people believe what they want to, and live how they want. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, why should anyone care? |

Not to de-rail the thread, but to answer your question, Because we are commanded to care. Not necessarily about what it is a person believes and or does, but about the person themselves. If what I believe is correct, then that person would be in a world of eternal hurt after this physical life is over. If I have information that could prevent that I need to care enough about them to share it with them. |

Wouldn't call myself a Christian but the world would be pretty great if everyone truly followed the tenets of Christianity. Honestly loving thy neighbor and looking out for the common good? There'd be no poverty, hunger and everybody would have access to medicine and shelter. I think there are some hateful Christians that are making the whole lot of them look bad. The best Christians, the ones that are truly following Christ, are not heard from. They're not boastful of their success so we don't always hear from them. |

...and here in lies the issue (as I see it). What anyone believes is only 100% correct to themselves. Which is why "agree to disagree" is the only safe way to go. (I mean - if, in fact, someone disagrees with you. No harm if they're like "hmm...interesting, tell me more...") Edited by carlosthedwarf, Oct 21 2009, 10:58 PM.

Scott - Looks like we're about 6 hours apart. If I'm ever down in the area for like a big magic event or something, I'll let you know in advance to see if we can meet up for some VS or something. Or if for some reason you happen to be in Manitoba =/ Some very interesting posts in this thread ... /start intro I'm Alex Lloyd, 20, currently in Winnipeg MB for school, which is a bit of a hike from where I'm from. Born in Ohio, raised in New Hampshire, took prereq courses at a tech just before the whole economy crash thing happened in fall '08. It 'kinda stumped my thoughts of going to school in the Boston area, so I checked for schools with similar programs and the University of Manitoba popped up as having a comparable psych program. Really cheap too. Currently I'm just doing the student thing, did some work at a book store this past summer and at a drug store. I enjoy TCGs, tennis, SSBB, Heroes, and techno movie video spoofs from youtube. Been playing Mtg competitively lately, mentioning VS and Marvel Superstars when appropriate at 4 different game shops in the area thus far. Grassroot movements work apparently, as evidenced by Obama's presidency. As far as religion goes, my facebook says I just don't want the end to be the end, and I'd like to leave it at that and think about card games more. I think that covers just about everything. My VS history isn't all that impressive; been to some major events, did fairly. Biggest thing is this community and being able to communicate with fellow card floppers; many of us even gathered for a fan-made event about a year ago, and other events have popped up too. It'd be cool to do something like that again. / Edited by Orange_Soda_Man, Oct 21 2009, 11:02 PM.

The thing with religious discussions is you can't change someone's mind, and while it may be fun argueing about who is better super or batman, doing the same with issues that people feel strongly about is just asking for trouble. Yes, I understand, that Christ wants people to be fishers of men. My parents were hardcore religious and stuck my ass in seminary classes and bible study, so i have a very good understanding of the bible. But you can do what you feel you need to do to appease your faith and guilty consceince, without coming on like some deranged crazy man on the street corner with a giant sign and yelling about the end of the world. Just say your piece, and either someone who wants to hear it will, and the ones who don't, just let them be. |

Coincidence perhaps but a lot of members are very surprised or dumbfounded that I am from PR. I guess its because of the place per se rather than anything else because when I see a member from Australia, Venezuela or Germany I kind of go like this .I am baptized under the Presbyterian Church, and the Catholic Church. Some issue in the school my mom enrolled my sisters and me about no presbyterians allowed, which interestingly enough was a rule that was changed when I was enrolled but since by that time my family had already "changed" religions I got to be dunked in water for the second time. BTW my father was always a catholic but my mom was a presbyterian so it wasn't like my parents actually changed religions. As of now I am a non-practicing Catholic, which I guess means I believe in God (not like the one they teach you but yeah a God) but I don't attend to mass or follow the commandments down to a tee. My commandment is my conscious. If it tells me I screwed up or did something bad it never fails as I did. I do love God, but I believe him not to be 100% kind or good as some religions sell him to you. I believe him to be fair and just. Like most of you I hate people who try to make you believe in their religions, so I try not to do that to anyone. Despite having a profound love of God if I could have it my way I would erase religion from the face of the Earth. Worst wars in history have been done in the name of God, and it pisses me of that man can't put such simple things aside. Religion in my eyes has always been the worst source of racism, funny cause almost all religions preach about love. |

Ok well... I'm Chris Guglielmelli, I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I'm 19 and am a full time student which means I'm unemployed at the moment. However, my dream is to become an author and working towards that, I'm writing a science fiction novel at the moment. Recently, I started talking with a literary agent, so it might not be too far off. I enjoy playing my PS3, and sometimes my Wii, and VS of course. I'm addicted to the show Lost, and had a dabble in scriptwriting and filmmaking. I also play the Pokemon video game competitively, and am hoping to attend a related video game championship when time permits. I like DragonForce, Metal Gear Solid and Crispix cereal. I think Captain Falcon is amazing and wish they made a movie about him. I'm a DC Comics nerd, to the point of publicly insulting people who say Superman shoots lasers out of his eyes (heat vision dammit). I'm a Batman fan. I think Street Fighter 4 is crap. That's about all I can think of. |

Ok, here goes. I was named Sean Marinelli...and then I did something that made my family look at me oddly...I got married and took my wife's last name. So, now I am Sean Coldiron. (Kind of a badass name, if I do say so myself.) I am 36. My wife is 39. We have no children, but we do have 4 precious cats that we treat like children. One of my cat's thinks she is a dog, and she knows how to heel and follow on command: She comes when I whistle for her, and she wears a dog collar. She has blue crossed eyes, and answers to the name 'Marshmelow'. (I am aware the name is spelled wrong=) My other cats are: Hobbes (as in Calvin and Hobbes) who is 13 and a grey tabby, Kali who is 11 and all black, and Salty who is 10, was the runt of the litter, and as her name suggests, she is white. Two of my cats were rescued from abusive homes. My wife and I enjoy Vs. as we were both big comic book geeks before we found the game. (We are still comic book geeks.) I am currently between jobs, but that gave me the time to run much more Vs events between job hunting than I could working 40 hours per week. (It would have been much better to get paid for the last year, but I digress.) The work front is starting to look a lot better for me. I have a very aggressive type A personality, though I am learning to be more relaxed in my appraoch to life and in dealing with people. It helps to know patience, which I struggle with. (Mrs. Baldman is awesome for putting up with me.) The Dwarf has been helpful in 'showing me the way' to be less aggressive and more endearing. (This would be the part where you all laugh out loud right after the word 'endearing', since I am seldom endearing.) I am a Christian, but I have some eccentric views about my religion. I believe in Science, Evolution and The Big Bang. I do not find Evolution and Religion to be mutually exclusive. While I am a religious person, I feel it is wrong to judge others on the basis of religion...or anything else other than personal conduct. I support the right for Gays to marry. (They have the right to be miserable too=) I love playing my Wii! (Wii Sports, is there anything better?) I am a huge fan of the Deathnote series. (If you have not seen it, you really should. Best. Manga. Ever. And Netflix has it=) I am also a huge Iron Man fan. Tony Stark, while being the consumate a-hole, is brilliant. I believe that there is always an 'intellectual' option to solve any problem. Tony Stark starts from this position and adds some brute force when necessary. I am not saying the character is a saint, but I find his humanity and propensity for human error to be a refreshing take. And finally, I am a Dallas Cowboys fan...and I am married to a Washington Redskins fan. We both wear our jersies on Sundays. When our teams play each other twice a year it is complete warfare in the household. So now you know all the reasons that you could hate me...and hopefully that honesty and sincereity will give you plenty of reason to love me instead . Well, it was worth a try
