MWS Roster Tournament Proposal

Hey guys,

One of the biggest challenges of a MWS tournament is trying to get everyone online at the same time to replicate a real life tournament. This is especially hard for international players.

I'm in the process of trying to encourage some of my guys here in Australia to start using MWS for Vs System and it'd be cool if there was something they could actually participate in.

Years ago I used to be in a Snooker Club where we had tournaments that ran over a number of weeks.

They were single-elimination (if you got knocked out, you could then put your name down for the next tournament, which would start as soon as you got enough people ... so you didn't have to sit out that long) and involved either four, eight, 16 or 32 players.

You got paired at the start of the week and then had to arrange with the other player a time to play during that week. The loser then reported the results back to the Tournament Organiser (TO).

For this to work for us, we'd have to have a TO who is not playing. Players would have to submit a deck list to the TO's email address prior to being paired for round one. That deck would have to be played unchanged for the duration of the tournament (all decklists will be published at the end of the tournament to ensure there's no shiftiness).

The TO would create the pairings through MANTIS and notify everyone by email and of who their opponent is and what the associated email addressses are (as well as post the pairings sans email addresses on the forum). It's then up to the players to sort it out.

In the case of non-attendances or any disputes, the TO's judgement is final. Obviously a collegial approach to playing (especially in game where there wouldn't be any independent judges) would be required, which shouldn't be hard since there's nothing on the line but pride.

So, if I offered to be the TO of the first eight-man three-week tournament, would people be interested in participating?

Very good ... we're off and racing.

I've updated the above list.

Start pondering your decklists, lads. Assuming we get our other six players in reasonably short time, your decks will be due to my email address by Sunday 29 November.

At the same time, if you think you'd like to play in any other tournaments like this then please feel free to provide input on formats. If this one is a success, then I'm thinking that a MEV-only tournament - with Blink (3) banned - might be worthwhile. All comments welcome in email (no need to crowd it up in here unless you really want to).

Cheers.

Only one spot left. First in best dressed. I'm happy to take a couple of alternates just in case, though. Those alternates will be guaranteed the first spots in the next tournament as well.

KK has also suggested that this tournament could be the first used in the proposed community ranking system. If no one has any objections and it's not a difficult thing to do, then I'm happy for that. Speak up if you have any concerns.

We're pretty much guaranteed to get off the ground now, so registered players should start seriously thinking about their decklists. Those are due to me (emailed to michael.pittman[at]guild.org.au or PM'ed to me if that's how you want to receive your pairing info back) on Sunday 29 November.

Thanks for participating.
