I'd like to make a proposal:

Winner of each tournament gets to propose the format of the next "new" tournament. Within reason. That way we're playing for something - if I win I can make you all play a format where JLI is included, or whatever it may be. A small prize, but a prize nonetheles.
I like it.

With multiple tournaments running at the same time, though, it might take a while for that to filter through.

It mightn't be until tournament #4 that it kicks in.

Great suggestion, though.

Tournament is single-elimination (if you get knocked out, you can then put your name down for the next tournament, which will start as soon as we have enough people ... so you won't have to sit out that long).

Spaces are limited but if demand markedly increases, we might be able to increase future tournaments to 16 players.

How it works ...

You get paired at the start of the week and then have to arrange with the other player a time to play during that week. The loser then reports the results back to the Tournament Organiser (TO).

Players have to submit a deck list to the TO via PM prior to being paired for round one. That deck has to be played unchanged for the duration of the tournament (all decklists will be published at the end of the tournament to ensure there's no shiftiness).

The TO creates the pairings and notifies everyone by PM. It's then up to the players to sort it out.

In the case of non-attendances or any disputes, the TO's judgement is final. Obviously a collegial approach to playing (especially in game where there wouldn't be any independent judges) is required, which shouldn't be hard since there's nothing on the line but pride.

Post if you want to play.

TO - Michael Pittman AKA ikeebear (michael.pittman[at]guild.org.au)

1. Majin_homer_jay - Decklist received.
2. kingfish
3. carlosthedwarf
4. TheDerangedBear
5. Villain
6. CapAp - Decklist received.
7. Morpheus1981
8. Brick Wallace
9. bkwrds
10. EvilDave
11. KardKrazy
12. Vader
13.
14.
15.
16.

Alternate 1:
Alternate 2:

Proposed starting date - Monday 7 December (or 14 December if it takes a while to fill the player spots). Decklists would me due to me via PM by Sunday 6 December)

Format - MEV Only. Additionally, Mobilize is legal. All UDE and Vssystem.org card bans apply (i.e. Blink [3] is banned in addition to official bans).

Tournament details - Single elimination. Best of three matches (although variations can be arranged if both players agree, i.e. single game matches).

Finally, I'd love to hear suggestions for future formats. Was this one any good? What about #1.
Updated.

We have our eight, but we might try to get to 16.

The registered players and alternates should start thinking about their decklists now, though. They will be due to me by the end of next Sunday. As demonstrated in tournament #1, if you're slow getting your decklist in then I have no qualms giving your spot to an alternate. I'll be getting tougher about this rather than softer in the interests of keeping things running smoothly.

You can go ahead and make me the alternate. I'll get my decklist ready just in case.

EDIT: And I figured my proposal would take a while to filter through, but eventually was my goal, really.

Change made. Thanks bkwrds.

Being an Alternate also means that you are automatically the first registered for the next tournament (if you end up missing out on this one).

What are Legend and Bring Your Own?
Legend is a format where at least 12 cards must possess the name of a character either in their name or their text, for instance:

Dr. Doom Legend deck:

4x Dr. Doom, Diabolical Genius
4x Mystical Paralysis
4x Reign of Terror

Spider-Man:
4x Spider-Man, Sensational
4x Gift Wrapped
4x Aunt May

Bring Your Own set is a format where every card must be from one set.

Bring Your Own team allows only cards stamped with one team or no team at all (If I picked Avengers, I could play Captain America, Secret Avenger, Walk Through Walls, and Savage Beatdown, but not Gravesite.

Bring Your Own 2 Team is where all cards must be stamped with one of the two teams you picked - If I picked Underworld and Avengers, I could play Captain America, Gravesite, but not Savage Beatdown. Oh and both your squadrons are crossed over immediately, so UW/Avengers are the same for all purposes of that game.

I'm a big fan of BYOTT.

But I have decks build for just about every format and love to build new one's.

I like BYOT quite a bit too.

It's Golden Age fun but doesn't allow you to use the entire card-pool - if you want build a burn deck, that's fine, but you can't use every good burn card there is. Just some of them. And you can't go all mega-team on stall decks either, which is good too.

Updated above.

Well, we just need four more for 16 (assuming everyone gets their decklists in, as required).

If we only got three, then I'd be willing to play but I'd have to take the loss round one regardless of the result ... it's not terribly fair that I actually have everyone's decklist.

I'd be willing to play so that whoever essentially has the bye doesn't miss out on a game. Shrug.
