We all know that playing VS online is going to keep this game alive and well.. It's always alot of fun to get on MWS at any time and find someone else to have a friendly game of VS with, but let's face it, eventually that will wear off. We need something that will spark player's interest in online play, which is online tournaments. The recent online MWS tournaments and the ones being planned for the beginning of 2010 are great, and they are exactly what we need to keep this game moving forward. These type of tournaments are exactly what I plan to start organizing in the next week.

Here is the question though.. Will players continue to have interest in these tournaments without any prize support? Several of the players in the recent MWS tournaments will continue to play, because they love to play and enjoy it whether getting something for winning the tournament or not. They are simply having fun, which is the way I look at it. Here is the problem.. There are some people that have no interest in a tournament with no prize support. If we were to have a nice prize for the winner of these online tournaments, do you think more people would get involved? Would there be more interest? Ofcourse!

Personally, I was planning on doing this myself (meaning I was planning on buying some playmats, different rares, etc. and offering them as prizes to the winners of tournaments I would organize). Now that I am without a vehilce ( as mentioned in the General Discussion section fo the website), I can't spend any of my money. All of it is being saved and put away for a new truck. With that being said, I do have several of rares that I am willing to offer as prize support.

Maybe if several people got together and pitched in an extra playmat or some extra rares not being used, we could have some prize support for these online tournaments..

I want everyone to know that this is only an idea. I am not saying this has to be done. All I am saying is that I truly believe it would spark an interest in these online tournaments and really help this game move forward.

Thoughts?

What about a small entry fee for those wanting to play. A couple of dollars isn't going to kill anyone and can be collected via paypal. Heck, normal weekly hobby league usually had a small fee associated with it for the prize support.

However, tournaments with prizes should be the only ones to have a cost. Any tournament with no prize support should continue to be free for those who just want to play in a semi-organized environment and don't care about prizes.

A small entry fee for a tournament with prizes seems like a great idea! Thanks for the input..
