I have an idea that I hope will stimulate some interest, after all who doesn’t like deck building with a slight twist. Basically I am looking for for 8 team leaders, nothing else is set in stone until after I get 8 volunteers. Each team leader can have as many forum members as they like in there team, who discuss the build of the decks, and get to play them in the competition. Each team has to put 7 decks together. When that’s done we have 4 quarter final matches best of 7 games with each of the 7 decks being played in 1 of the 7 games. Team leaders have final say on the deck builds, and nominate a member of their team to play each of the matches. After that we get to play 2 semi-finals & then the final. Here are the twists on the deck building. Firstly. The team leaders get to draft their primary affiliations. Each Team will end up with 7 different affiliations which will become the primary affiliations in 1 of their decks. (by the time u get round to your last couple of picks, there is going to be some barrel scraping) Secondly Each deck will have a limit on the number of team stamped cards from teams other than the primary affiliation (I await advisement on the number) Thirdly. No card should appear in more than 2 deck lists for each team. (You might like to put mobilize in 5 decks, but which 2 need it most) Fourthly The Formats. This can be either all golden age; or one each of Golden Age, Silver Age, Modern Age, Random Punks, Legend, Dual Legend, BYOT; some combination of the 2, or something completely different. This can be decided amongst the Team Leaders. The Timeframe for this can be decided later too, obviously 7 decks under these rules can’t be put together in 2 minutes. Volunteers please, surely this tickle a few peoples fancy. |

It's a really ambitious idea. I'd love to see it work, but there would almost certainly be time commitment issues and who knows if there are actually enough people left. Even if each team only had a leader and one other person that makes 16. We can't even get 16 people for a simple online tournament. Then you're looking at a very lengthy deck-building period followed by months to get in 7 rounds. Might want to try something on a smaller scale. There are a lot of cool ideas there, but put them together and it's just too likely to burn out and never be completed. |

Yes it is (very) ambitious. But let me give 2 reasons why i think it would be good for the forum. Assumining each team has a hidden thread/some sort of team p.m. system it might encourage people to post ideas. I imagine at the moment there's a lot people looking at the forum but not posting. Now i think there's 2 major reasons why this happens. Firstly a lot of people are worried about making a post that makes them look rather stupid (not me - i make stupid mistakes in posts all the time). Secondly a lot of posts, especially deck building ideas, get 0 or next to 0 response. I hope this concept will encourage discussion. Secondly re the entries for the online tournies. Basically the turnouts are low because most people would scared of getting a complete wupping on MWS. a) there deck might look pathetic against a lot of experienced builders on here. b) they might make stupid plays against experienced players c) they might not even use MWS properly. Now i know this to be true beocs all 3 apply to me. However if players are encouraged to take part in discussions about the decks, & get practice with more experienced team mates they would be a lot more likely to join in other online tournies. Again i know this to be true becos it applies to me. As for time constrictions - i would imagine a time frame of about 3months for the deck building to be about realistic. Team Leaders would not even need to check in every day. First of all of course, i need the 8 volunteers of course to drive this forward. But i do believe this could be very good for the forum. |

I agree that downsizing it a little bit might make it more viable. Maybe 4-6 teams that make 4-6 decks each? But I also agree that this is a good idea. I definitely feel that a lot of the lurkking vs. posting does have a lot to do with intimidation, and I think that this could help with that. |

i'm fine with downsizing on both counts. 4 teams can play a round robin or semis & final can 6 teams could play 2 round robins of 3 & a final. Also no of decks can be decided once team leaders are sorted. Basically everything is up for debate/discussion. First volunteer might start a flood

I wish I could do this, but literally every spare second of my life away from work and wife is spent moderating, backing up Metagame, building 198 decklists, and playing 100 Ideas matchups. I really wish this project the best of luck. Most projects I start have lots of help off the bat, then it winds down. The 100 Ideas, which I'm still having a blast on, admittedly draws less and less attention every round. Every round less people read, so less people volunteer, so the rounds take longer, so people forget, so less people read, so less people volunteer... Thank God for that Ring Has Chosen bunch! They're still as eager as ever to play a match or two! PS I'm not trying to sound bitter at all. Everyone around here is just so darn busy. Vs. draws in a mature crowd, which means jobs, wives, kids, etc. Don't give up on your project, just know it will take waaaay longer than you think! |
