Anyone else tried it? I've built a couple decks around Witchfire, just because every other Shadowpact deck I'd ever heard of was all about 4-drop June Moon. We had a guy who ran that and was pretty good at the life fluctuation game, so I explored a different route. Version 1: Kyle/Zatanna/Witchfire/Martian Manhunter/Zatanna/Shazam, lots of Battle of Will and Abjuration, but we were under the impression that you could gain 5 life for each Abjuration because they'd trigger all at once. It was all about combat and some life gain. Version 2: Doesn't run a 1 or a 2 drop, starts with Zatanna or Aquaman on 3, then Witchfire/Martian Manhunter/Dr Fate/Aquaman/Captain Marvel. This is about recovery, life gain, +ATK due to MM, Fate and Light Armor, and surviving until 8 where Aquaman brings back enough Crisis Averted to pay for Captain Marvel. Staying alive is done through MM reinforcement, Witchfire life gain, JLA life gain, and stunning the crap out of attackers. Search is done with Heroes of Two Worlds (which means there are 3 copies of Captain Marvel, but otherwise it works). |

Seems like a decent combo. Either way, you probably should include some Satellite HQ; in addition to the standard hidden-hate, the reusable DEF pump for attackers should keep them unstunned (and therefore save you some endurance loss). I wonder if some control elements might help. Field of Honor, Monitor Womb Station, and DJL's Wonder Woman-4 can work with Conclave and the generic Breaking Ground in controlling effects, which might blunt your opponent's offensive capabilities. I don't know if it'd be enough, or if it'd interfere too much with the endurance-gain content you'll want. |

I had Satellite HQ (it was a New Era build) in. There's a lot of JLA stuff I can't use effectively because if I don't hit the right 3, there won't be any JLA on the field until 5. And there's often no JLA defender, which leaves out Bring It On. And WW does break the life gain thing. But I did throw in Conclave. I can't even use Roll Call's card cycling until 7, so it's out too. I just chucked the New Era stuff for Battle of Wills, Conclave, and Chimp Detective Agency. Still no 1s or 2s 3 4x Rose Psychic 3 2x Aquaman 4 4x Witchfire 5 4x Martian Manhunter 6 4x Dr Fate 7 2x Aquaman 8 3x Captain Marvel 23 characters 4x Willworld 4x Chimp Detective Agency 4x Crisis Averted 4x Battle of Wills 4x Conclave 4x Heroes of Two Worlds 3x Dr Fate's Tower 2x Revitalize 1x Satellite HQ 1x Fate Has Spoken 3x Light Armor 1x Helm of Fate 1x Amulet of Fate 1x Cloak of Fate 37 other things The old build was this, but: -4 CDA -4 BoW -4 Conclave -4 Rose Psychic +1 Helm +1 Amulet +1 Cloak +1 Light Armor +2 Satellite HQ +2 3-drop Aquaman +2 3-drop Zatanna +1 Revitalize +4 New Era +1 location team-up, whatever it was, only used to get an extra point out of Crisis Averted This version didn't fight too well, but it did hit its drops. Which is hard to do given that there's no team-up to depend on, and I don't own a single Mobilize or Enemy of My Enemy. And not enough willpower to use Ring Has Chosen, and Emerald Dawn would not be workable. The idea was that they'd keep having to attack Witchfire, who'd have Light Armor on 4 for +3, MM on 5 for another +2, and Fate on 6 for +1-3. I take 6 for moving MM and getting Witchfire stunned, then Revitalize, move MM out of the way (another 2), and they do it again. But I do get back the cost of whatever I stun. My attacks are weak because the Satellite doesn't work on Witchfire, and MM doesn't get to have Light Armor in the hidden area until 6 (though I can discard it). Still, if I live through 6, I probably get to 8 with Aquaman recycling Crisis Averted. Anyway, it'll never be a great deck. I doubt it'll ever be a good deck. But it has hopes of someday being an ok deck. Probably have to either pick one team to be dominant and use team-stamped effects, or return to the 50/50 I had and kick out the Shadowpact-specific bits again. |

You don't need to team up with Shadowpact. Just run the 1 drop Mary Marvel. Run a bunch of low drop concealed guys and then on 8, sub her in and play Captain Marvel. |

True, though the point of the deck was not so much to stall for Captain Marvel as it was to do something with those two teams, willpower, and life gain. Captain Marvel's just a bonus if I happen to get to him. |

JLA / GL would be easier for Willpower / life gain. And then you can run Mary Marvel and Cap Marvel too, hehe. |

Please don't take offense, but "do something" is not a goal for deckbuilding that generally results in wins. I would also recommend the lifegain/Captain Marvel strategy. |

I apologize; that phrase ("do something") was quite vague! The paragraph just above the quote has a detailed explanation about the specific interactions I was aiming for. My point was that the goal I had here was to build a deck around a certain concept that happens to include CM, rather than a serious attempt at a CM stall deck, which would obviously look quite different. If I wanted to take those 60 cards and build the most effective deck I could, I suppose the thing to do would be to chuck most of them and turn it into QuickFate. Sorry, I probably shouldn't have posted the deck, as my question was simply whether anyone built a JLA/Shadowpact willpower-based deck that I could possibly swipe ideas from. I simply posted the deck in case anyone was interested. In any case, doesn't look like anyone else has tried it. I've since revamped it yet again anyway, which I'll do until I'm satisfied I've explored the concept as far as I can take it, and then hang on to it or tear it apart for good. |
