I've always intended to get the collected Blackest Night storyline, but the DLL set gave me the kick in the pants I needed to get around to ordering it (birthday cash I received recently also helped the decision).

So I've got the hardcovers of Blackest Night, Blackest Night: Green Lantern, and Blackest Night: Green Lantern Corps. What order should I read these in?

I need answers today because I'm diving into these puppies when I get home! :)

Sadly, I think the answer is "all at the same time". I don't have these collections (I have the issues), so I can say for sure since I don't know where they begin/end. But this story was all tied together as it happened in the regualr issues. So the first tie-in issues of GL and GLC happen between BN#1 and BN #2.

That was my fear. I'd rather have Blackest Night volume 1, 2, and 3, but I can understand how someone who just collects Green Lantern might be upset about buying 2 other tpbs.

I have a comprehensive list of the order. It goes -

There are also tie-ins which I have a list of too. But this is a list of the main story arc in order.

Thanks KK. I decided for now to skip the tie-in books. I may get them down the road, but I doubt it. Have to be choosy on the books I decide to buy. Thanks for the list!

Make the best decision you can and skip the storyline entirely. It's not worth it.

Too late, the books are already here!

I tried to warn you. It's a terrible storyline.

Well, I avoided spoilers and reviews because I wanted to be surprised, so I'll chance it. I enjoyed The Sinestro Corps War so I am willing to gamble on Geoff Johns.

I disagree. It may not be the best "event" ever, but it's got some cool parts to it and is worth the time.

You want terrible? Read Final Crisis.*

*I 100% mean the first line. The second line I put in there to poke at Gugs. [laugh]

At least the FC ending wasn't called a year before the book came out.

I enjoyed Blackest Night a million times more than Final Crisis. Final Crisis was a bore fest to me while Blackest Night was exciting. Of course zombies are my favorite horror genre and this was about as close to DC zombies as I can get. Could be worst though I could be forced to read Final Crisis while watching Gotham Knights.

I think I missed like the 18 books that tie into Final Crisis to make it make sense! I still have no idea what really was going on with that story. But no story in the DC Universe is worse than Trinity. Ugh, it almost made me switch to Marvel (almost).

@Scott: There were only a few books other than the main series that were crucial to read. I believe it was Submit, Resist, and Last Rites, and that's it.

@KK:
Spoiler: click to toggle

Regardless I still enjoyed Blackest Night way more than Final Crisis. I don't need for my comic book stories to be over developed (which Final Crisis was). I need the art work to be of high caliber, the story to be fun to read, and include characters I enjoy. Final Crisis didn't have hardly any of this other than some hit and miss art work. But once again I am biased because they used zombies. When I say I am a zombie fan I mean I am a hard core zombie fan. I will watch or read ANYTHING at least once with zombies in it. I might not always like it when its done but I always give it a chance:).
