I read the whole story from start to finish last night, and I enjoyed it. It does make your head spin a little, since it's fast and furious action for so much of the story. The art was gorgeous, but there were a couple of times I had trouble telling what had happened.

As a Martian Manhunter fan, I loved seeing how badass he was as a Black Lantern. Black Firestorm was downright scary. Was it the tightest written event ever, no. But was it exciting, yes it was. I've been yawning my way through Chaos War, which is supposed to be this universal-threat story. It doesn't really feel that way in Chaos War, but the Black Lanterns certainly were a universal threat and it felt that way.

And as always Mogo remains kick ass.

I would note about your chart KK that Blackest Night #7 isn't on the list; I figured out where to read it through a little trial and error. I also couldn't read the GLC issue numbers, but again I just figured it out.

Dang my bad about leaving out Blackest Night #7 from that list. I must have moved the torrent elsewhere. Glad you also enjoyed it:).

Sinner!

Seriously... how long will it before no one reads paper comics anymore?

When paper comics don't exist my comic days will be over I think. Digital delivery would have to improve significantly before I'd even consider subscribing, but at the end of the day you end up paying Marvel money to read comics you don't own. I'm not down with that.

Part of the fun of comic collecting is the hunt to complete a collection. I dove through a lot of dollar bins to complete my Alpha Flight volume 1 collection, but I did it. It's the thrill of the hunt. :)

While I have some of the GIT Corp digital comic collections, I don't generally kick back to read them, I tend to use them more when looking to read specific stories. I like to hit the couch or bed with my comics, not sit at my desk to read them.

lol @ BatHulk
I actually don't hunt down torrents normally that I don't have. To be completely honest I had NO inclination to read Blackest Night as I felt it was DC going "WAHHHH we want Zombie money like Marvel too." But then DLL came along and I like to be familiar with the material in the set so I grabbed up BN #1-6 because it was as far as they were at the time and read over them. I became highly intrigued at that point and hunted down every single Blackest Night read there was. I very well intend on giving DC Comics my money for the Blackest Night books in the form of TPB. They get two big thumbs up from me for Blackest Night. Best thing they have put out in years. Probably will be another 5-10 years before they do that well again:p.
See I'm a good little torrent collector [grin] . Most torrents I own are so I can read books I already have when I am away from home or they are used for the art work in mine and banstylejbo's sets.
later,
Kj

One day, everyone will just be reading on their Color Nooks, Color Kindles or iPad 8s (or mobile phones seeing how big those are getting).

It's inevitable. They are already coloring on computers... so why transfer them back to paper.

I think they'll go the way of music where you can just buy a digital copy... and hope that DRM keeps ahead of pirates.

Oh, the day is coming, I have no doubt. I just hope it's later rather than sooner. :)

If I kept buying comics I'd probably stick to hunting down back issues, though that would get harder and harder as more shops would close.

What bugs me about digital distribution (music, movies, television, etc) is that it costs the same as if you bought a physical copy! I know there are associated costs with digital distribution, but it must be cheaper to produce than making hard copies. You have to pay for material costs, shipping, storage, etc, all things that aren't a factor with digital.

Digital distribution is its own market. You only have so much space for stuff to exist, so you have to buy more space. It's easy to torrent a movie, but you can't torrent the space needed to hold it. External drives are cheap nowadays but still.

I realize there are costs involved that are not a part of normal distribution, but I would wager it is still much cheaper to host it digitally than to produce it traditionally. If it wasn't the market wouldn't be moving towards the digital market in the first place.

The reason why they make it cost the same is because distribution is harder to control than physical.

To make up for the loss of "buys", they increase the margin of the profit for each buy.

It will eventually be cheaper... but physical medium is on its way out... even Netflix realizes this as they focus on their streaming model rather than their DVD/BD one.

(which is why I think BDs aren't going to have a very long life compared to previous video mediums)

It's interesting that the audience that still reads comics is probably the same audience who knows enough about technology to avoid paying for them. Luckily, as Hatman mentioned, it's that collectible factor that keeps comics going.

Perhaps it's also worth mentioning that (at least to me) there's a really big difference between seeing a physical print of drawings by great comic artists and looking at it on a computer screen.

Yeah, getting Stan Lee to autograph your Kindle just isn't the same. :)

It's better... it's like he signed every single comic you have... even DC ones!

BTW: Saw him on one of the Nikita episodes.
