...list...

I needed to include one generic (Team Spirit) because there are only 59 X-Statix Cards.
So, is this just a list of all 59 X-Statix cards with one generic? Seems like it should be a sub pack, since this Cube thing is supposed to create a very powerful draft environment... Then again, this may be a very powerful pack, but, seeing as how I am a Cube expert and not a VS limited expert, I'm not sure if it is. But I think the ability to cut cards that aren't good enough to be drafted/Cube Drafted is important.

agreed. That's why, even though the X-Men have over 150 characters, only 45 made the cut in my X-Men pack. That said, I don't know enough about X-Statix to say one way or another how strong this pool is.

My initial thought is that there are too many 1-drops and a 6-drop could 'prolly get cut. I'm sure there are more generics that are good enough to be tied strictly to the X-Statix to make up for it.

Before putting X-Statix as a core team, we had 24 Core teams and 31 Sub teams. This prevented us from having all 8 cubes assembled at once. To have 8 Cubes simultaneously assembled, we need 24 and 32 or 25 and 30.

I like the idea of building all 8 Cubes (which can fit in 4 generic card boxes), and then simply swapping a team from one cube to another when you want.

That's why I decided to switch X-Statix (the only sub team that could) up to a Core team. However, for the sake of this project, I could list them as a Sub Pack, and just make them a Core Pack in my own personal collection.

Nah, keep them as a core pack, they can be the Dan (of Street Fighter fame) of the cube! A confident player that wants to show off can pick them in order to prove they are that much better by beating everybody with an arguably underpowered deck.

Or I'm being an idiot, it is early after all.

The problem is you probably cannot build a very viable X-Statix deck if they are a core team, since they have two themes that are completely at odds with each other. Half of their characters/effects need you to have a large field and the other half need you to have only one character in play. For playability it would make sense to either add some generics for one of their themes or cut them down to a sub team.

Remember that when you draft you only build 30 card decks and can pass the characters that don't fit your theme while pulling the ones that do. When MMK was drafted, drafters had to deal with both themes. I'm not quite sure what's different here. Just my 2 cents.

If this is the case, make 2 Sub-Teams, each focusing on the different themes?

Whats different here is that we have total control over the draft pool. And, the object is to make the most powerful singleton draft pool possible. It seems to me that not being able to cut bad cards out of a team doesn't allow for the "most powerful pool".

And, it seems to me that you want this team to be a Core team, but sort of function as a Sub-team within the draft... "pass what doesn't fit your theme". So, you pick one half of the Core Pack and can only draft that? Seems like a Sub Team.

Again, speaking from a cube-expert POV, as I know very little about various vs teams that I have no experience with.

I think it's fine to include multiple themes within a team's pack. In Magic terms, the argument against X-Statix would be similar to saying blue can't have both aggro merfolk and counterspells, since they don't fit the same theme. Or red with land destruction and burn.

Most teams aren't as polarizing as X-Statix, sure, but whatever. We won't know 'till we sleeve it up and shuffle 'em up.
