I'm sure you've all heard by now but we got that bastard yesterday. Everyone knows he wasn't really running anything now a days but it is still nice to know we set out to get him for the murder of thousands of people and we got him.

I'm not gonna lie, part of me is kind of sad that they went in going for the kill, not the capture. I know he's done terrible things, but I'd have rather seen him captured alive rather than just shot on sight. Partially for what they might have learned from him about Al-Quaida, partially because he deserved to suffer for what he's done, and partially because I like to believe we can live in a world where killing is not the first option, but the final one.

Dead then or dead later. Makes me happy he's dead. I doubt they would have learned anything from him though. He would have never talked. I do find it smart on their part to have his body dumped out at sea so his burial ground wouldn't become a shrine.

I personally took some pride that it was Navy Seals leading the commando team, since my wife and I served for 3 and 5 years respectively in the Navy. [grin]

Glad that hunt is over now, interesting to hear how Pakistan is going to explain why he was there in a suburb full of retired Pakistan military.

I agree with all this.

He was an ass. He deserves not to be living among the rest of us. And his insane overreaction to our policies in his country doomed any chance his movement had of getting their concerns heard.

It's good that he's gone, even if, as KK said, he wasn't currently running anything (the fact that we took his network from "a deadly force" to "having to hide and communicate by pigeon" is the real accomplishment, imo.)

That said - from 9/11 until now, we've created a lot of U.S. resentment across the world with our policies. Anyone who thinks "yay - he's gone - we can let our hair down - time to party!" just isn't paying attention. Which is why I'm having a hard time stomaching all the celebration.

The hard work (disabling the network) had been done for a while. And while it's nice that we took out the old man who used to have power, that's like them taking out Jimmy Carter. It's a cool feather in the cap, but it doesn't mean much at this point - terror-wise.

Though peace-of-mind wise for the friends/families of the victims of 9/11, I'm sure it means a lot more. Don't get me wrong, it's great this dipsh-t is toast, I'm just saying it's not a reason to start a victory party, because we're far from being out of the woods.

Agree with everything you said Carlos. I'm happy and it put a smile on my face when I heard he ate a bullet but I'm not going out and going "Woot woot we are safe." Obviously the religious nut jobs are going to target us hard core now. So we'll definitely have to keep our guards up and hope that Washington does the same.

They also claim to have shot him in the eye which a key component is most current facial recognition programs.

What saddens me most is I no longer believe Anything that my government tells me.

But if it makes someone feel better -- I'm happy for them.

Sooooo...how exactly would you believe them?
Would they need to bring you the body for observation:p?
haha...You know I'm picking with ya kariggi.
I knew as soon as I heard they dumped his body out at sea the conspiracy theories would go rampant.

No,

I'm telling you if they laid a body at my feat, I couldn't believe them because they are liars. My only conspiracy theory is that my goverment has a policy of deciet and half truths which has so coloured my view of them that all I can try to do is continue to survive knowing I will never know the truth.

Even who is good or bad what they have or haven't done is entirely suspect to me. I love this country, and so I must be sad that we the people have been so lazy living the American dream that we allowed those least worthy to rule us to rise to power.

American Ballot

Bad Choice #1
Bad Choice #2

Tell me what kind of choice is that...oh yeah freedom of choice, the American Way.

Sounds like Kariggi needs to move to France.

Love it or leave it you long haired hippy!!!!! [laugh]

So does that mean that Obama is a war monger now that he took out Bin Laden with extreme prejudice?

Like I've always maintained, it does not matter who is in office... the US will always be seen as the devil by extremists. We can withdraw every single soldier from everywhere in the world and put a giant force field around the US and we will still be targets of terrorism.

Let me just remind everyone that we are in THREE wars now and I'm going to end up paying more for not only my own medical coverage but for the lazy people too.
