I can see what you mean, but like some said, if I had the choice of paying $80+ just for a set of mobilize or not playing at all it just wouldn't be worth it to me. I really enjoy playing the game but now that the game is out of print, if proxies are not allowed, it's whoever has the most toys wins. (Which would be kwikee by the way, i'm in his playgroup.) If we allow proxies, even just for money cards, it would open up possibilities for decks and styles of play that some of us wouldn't be able to experience otherwise.

"Still can do that with proxies. Shrug."

I have to disagree there, you can't. It's like holding a signed fotograph of *insert favorite band/celeb/grandma* or a printed copy of [previously named] you found on the internet. Shrug. (did I use it right? Dunno what it means :D never really heared a shrug sound ;) )

But the main point I merely elaborating about is that I think its sad that if you want to play something but are not interrested in the physical thing representing what you are playing. I guess my point of view hasn't changed as drastically just because the game is dead.
But I see your points very much Ike and can imagine myself having a different feeling in your playgroup.
Ofcourse the mainpoint is having fun with the lads and/or ladies playing some cards. And whatever works within the group is perfect but when endlessly printing proxies ruins the fun of collecting, trading and caring for your own cards, there is a slight problem (in my point of view).
For me the T in tcg was (and is) a pretty important letter, I guess that explains my disagreement better than my before mentioned example :)
Or something like that is what I wanted to say... I think.
Gotta say ConkyCameleon gave a nice summary btw.

When I test fan cards I have to print them out to make the decks. I enjoy that just fine.

As for the shrug, that's just one of many many quirky charms. Hahaha.

Don't get me wrong, I love collecting. Most of my Vs collecting is done and dusted just because there isn't much left to collect. I've got four-of most cards I'd want four-of. The exceptions are some of the bigger DCL cards that I just can't find or can't justify the price of with a young family.

And I've made peace with the fact that I'll never get all of MEQ. : \

i understand that most people here have been collecting vs system for quite some time but for my group that isnt really the case. we started in january-febuary of this year and so its all pretty new still. it was so much fun to be able to get into a great game such as this and buy booster boxes at a fraction of the cost of when it was in print so i quickly got a large collection going. it was kinda a downer when the group first decided to proxy seeing as how we hadnt even looked at the fan sets yet so it was a very new idea (for me at least). but as mentioned in many a post here there are plenty of great reasons to proxy and seeing as how it can make for more interesting games since we can get the cards we want/need we can play whatever deck we wish. although ill never fully like the idea of proxies i have given up fighting about it cause in a game thats long out of print this may be the only way to keep things from getting stale.

i am a part of Abyss' and Ike' playgroup (i am looking for a new group but these 2 guys are all i have plus other losers but i wont name their names).

Priorities for VS System as off 8 July 2011

1. Collectable for many lovely people around the world
2. VS Gameplay experience with people you may or may not like (see above)

I am up for priorty 2. Without people to play with, for me anyway, vs would be dead for the second time to me.

I will always try and use real cards (except for out latest poty format) in our potys cos i need to justify my card boxes taking up space in my house.

note 1: aren't ALL fans sets, in reality, proxies? (note 1.1: isnt online play proxies with binary?)

note 2: we had proxies at the Australian Mega weekend and i didnt punch anyone in the head cos of that player having proxies. It was good to see players down from sydney btw.

note 3: my playgroup aren't as bad as i state above, they are much much worse.

All in all, i think we need to adapt to our local playgroup and keep on playing VS.

With VS dead, I say bring on the proxies. I only get to play with one other guy now, and like half of his decks are proxies because he's a DC nut (we know how hard it is to get DC Legends cards). As it is other stuff is becoming rarer or more pricey like Green Lantern and Justice League (not Crisis though).

As long as they try to make good proxies, and not just scribble black marker on a MOR common, let them use them.

I am not a fan of proxies, that being said I have proxies of Mobilize and EoME, since I do not feel like transfering my actual copies of these cards to each of my decks that I have made. (in the rare tournament play I can get to, the deck has all real cards or I find a "B" substitute card -a real card that does the job just not as well- and hope for the best)
am I
LAZY ??
HYPOCRITE ??
AWESOME ??

I vote awesome.

Nothing wrong with that.

The main reason we permit proxies in tournaments is because we'd rather have six or eight people playing than two or three (and our tournaments aren't very serious in the first place).

I used the magic editor and made a kang deck. Except i changed every picture to a photo of the actor Jeff Golblum, and changed all text specific to his name. Thats right, Time-Blums, Cover-Blumes, its all Custom.
ROFL, can you please post pics...

As far as proxies go, As long as everyone in the playgroup is cool with it....

Anything that keeps people playing is fine by me. I would have no objections as long as the proxies were accurate.

and you don't like being happy?

We use them. I didn't like them till my collection got too big to go through just to build a deck no one will let me play after the first few games. Now we proxy, even sometimes with Black Sharpies, sometimes just knowing that those 3 threshold cards that obviously don't go are Mobi's or Enemies.
