I'm relatively new to VS and the group and I were considering having a few draft or sealed games tonight. I kinda know the basics of how to do each format but would appreciate if someone can post some detailed rules on how to run a draft and a sealed game. We are using MUN by the way. Thanks. Also, we only have 4 people. Edited by jcw216, Jul 15 2011, 07:35 PM.

For Sealed you just each get 5 packs open them up and build the best deck you can. For Draft you each get 3 packs. Each person opens their first pack selects 1 card and passes it to their right, untill all cards have been selected, the second pack is rotated to the left, and the third pack to the right. The biggest change in sealed/draft rules from constructed is that you may play as many copies of a card as come out of those packs ...so no 4 per deck restriction. Have fun. |

Usually you also build 30 card decks. |

One of the most challenging parts of drafting is getting a good character "curve". In a 30 card deck, I aim to have a curve like this: 1-Drops - 0 2-Drops - 5 3-Drops - 4 4-Drops - 4 5-Drops - 3 6-Drops - 2 7-Drops - 2 You can obviously fudge those numbers, e.g. if you can put together a very aggressive deck you might want fewer seven-drops and more ATK pumps. Also, you want to aim to pick up a couple of team-ups if you aren't mono-team (which you'd think is unlikely ... although SHIELD in MUN is doable). I always value team-ups too lowly in comparison to my other local players and struggle to get enough of them. Finally (and this is a bit advanced), there's "signaling". I won't confuse you with too much theory, but if you get passed a really good card in the third or fourth pick of the draft, then you can interpret that as the people to your left (who are feeding you packs in the first and final pack, if you pass right-left-right) aren't picking that affiliation, so it might be a good idea to get into it if you haven't already. You have to be really flexible in a draft and try to pick up on signals. If the other players in the draft aren't overly experienced, though, then some of the signals mightn't be too reliable, so keep that in mind too. Man, I'm itching for a draft now. |
