I'm about to have a limited extravaganza with my Nerdcave buddies, and realized they don't know anything about the set. Is there a team overview / set overview / keyword overview for the set somewhere so we're not flying blind tonight?

I believe banstylejbo designed the set. You might PM him. He has been very helpful in the past, just busy sometimes and does not always notice the threads. But if you can get a Banjo Signal shinning in the VS sky I am sure he will show up soon.

By the way, I would like to see a summary/overview/team strategy guide for this set too. Our group is going to play with this set next week.

Thanks ahead of time Banjo.

I just got my MFA in the mail and haven't rifled through them yet. I usually make draft packs with all the fan sets instead of building real decks.

Guess I can try to help some...if this is what you need?

Asgardians: Have a lot of Loki and Thor based effects as well as some choosing random stuff going on. Feels like a slightly more control based team with some interesting combo potential.

Dark Avengers: Lots of aggro based support effects using the Prowler keyword to improve their use as actual character cards.

Excalibur: They have a loner theme and effects that trigger off characters leaving play, which helps with the loner theme since they primarily achieve the loner status by removing their guys from the game. Captain Britain is the legend on the team and stays pretty much on team.

Heroes for Hire: They have a lot of endurance payment for some decent effects. They also get bonuses while in combat with a opposing characters who can not fly or shoot. There are even a few cards that like equipment, but it isn't as supported as endurance payment and the combat bonuses. Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight, and Colleen Wing all have some support in the team.

Masters of Evil: Same old resource payment stuff with some new stuff like some stuff that works good against opposing swarm teams and equipment based stuff. Dr. Doom and Baron Zemo are the legends on the team.

Marvel Defenders: They have an exhaustion based theme where you get bonuses for controlling exhausted characters and stuff that exhausts your characters. They also have a substitute theme and effects that trigger off characters entering play that turn. I really think they are the strongest team in the set, with a lot of control elements. Dr. Strange, Sub-Mariner, Silver Surfer, and Hulk all have legend support with Strange and Sub-Mariner both getting individual cards and the whole group getting a group legend card.

New Warriors: They have "exhaust a character you control" payment powers. They also have some torchbearer based stuff. Still haven't completely understood what the team is there for besides Night Thrasher legend cards and splashing the cards into other teams, but I'm sure there are good in team strategies somewhere in the team other than the Scarlet Spider trio. :)

And now a quote from the MFA thread.

Quote:

Prowler [Whenever this character becomes stunned, you may KO a resource you control. If you do, put this character face-down into your resource row.]

Torchbearer [When this character enters play, until it leaves play, it has the printed powers of target character with the same printed identity.]

Substitute-Loyalty This works exactly like the old substitute ability introduced in Legion of Superheroes, except you must control a character of the same team to substitute the character. Basically it works like you would assume it works.

Eternal [Whenever this character becomes stunned, it can’t be KO’d during the recovery phase this turn.] This keyword was introduced in the last set I desgined, entitled Marvel Annihilation Conquest. It was featured on the Eternals team, but appears here on a character as a Heroes for Hire character and a little "legacy support" for my own other set.

Crusader did a fine job giving an overview of the teams in the set. Bravo! Not much to add really that he hasn't gone over. If you like aggressive stuff, try Dark Avengers (can try mixing with Heroes for Hire for more prowler effects) or New Warriors. Marvel Defenders are the control team and have a lot of big splashy effects. Excalibur was a huge fan favorite back when the set was first released. Masters of Evil brings in a bit of what they've done in the past along with some under-dropping stuff. Dr. Doom is featured there and has some nifty legend stuff. The only thing Crusader didn't mention was the Cabal (not an actual affiliated team, but they are mechanically). They are the evil version of the Illuminati. They are basically designed to mimic what the Illuminati did in MUN. They work along the same lines and are a control oriented group. There may not be enough within MFA to fully support them, but if you use cards from outside the set you'll be able to augment them better.
