Coup d'Etat "KO a character you control. If you control Gorilla Grodd, negate target recruit effect if its cost is less than or equal to the cost of the character you KO'd." There isnt many cards in vs that negate recruit effect so not sure how this card works with some of these situations If you negate target character recruit effect and that character was someone like garth tempest with a chainable effect or dr. doom whos effect triggers when he has come into play could you get either of those effects to work before they get negated? what happens when you negate a press characters recruit effect? would the next character card cost one less to recruit? On a legend card say you negated a 5 frop Juggernaut and then on turn 7 they bring in the big Juggernaut who says "At the start of the combat phase, if you recruited another Juggernaut this game" would that effect work? There is probably more stuff I wanna know involving this card but cant think atm lol |

Recruiting is an effect that goes onto the chain:
The effects that trigger off of coming into play, WILL NOT trigger as you negate the recruit itself and the character never makes it into play. Negating the recruit will put the character card from the chain into the KO'd pile directly. As for cards like Juggernaut that just need a recruit, I am not 100% positive, but I believe it would still work as you still recruited the character, the effect of putting that character into play just would have never happened. But again, I am not entirely positive on that. Edited by AlphaSilvr, Aug 10 2012, 05:20 PM.

1) If you negate a recruit effect, it will never resolve, which means the character card never enters play and becomes a character. This means that its text never actually becomes active at all, so "enters play" triggers won't happen, and its payment powers and other abilities never actually exist. 2) If you negate a recruit effect, the player still "recruited" that character card. The same thing applies to plot twists-- if you negate a plot twist effect, a plot twist by that name was still played. Game effects looking for "characters recruited" and "plot twists played" don't actually care if they resolved. |

That actually gives me an idea for a great control deck-- play Lex Luthor - Nefarious Philanthropist, and then team up with Gotham to negate their one allowed plot twist every turn. The game will still remember it and not allow them to play another one! ;) :P |
