this is a great idea for new players to hop in. some moths ago somebody did a thread like this but it only had deck types and there are a bunch of different decks, I think you should take a look to that thread.

The title says this is a thread for new players, but it seems to jump into tournament-type language pretty quickly. An introductory paragraph illustrating that might help.

Ultimately I don't believe the 99% of new players that will come to this site are looking to get better at basics. They typically want deck advice, which involves mention of the same 15 plot twists just about every time. The thread may be a little hard for new players at first but this will def help with understanding everything else they will read in these forums.

In either case I will add a better introduction to the thread and make it more friendly to new players and also a better intro to each section. Ill also be adding a keyword breakdown at some point to the opening post.

Thanks for the advice!

SuperAzn, I'm looking to get some IRL tournaments started on a different forum, do you mind if I copy/paste most of this over there? I'll modify some of the stuff for my own purposes, but I didn't want to straight copy/paste without asking first. Thanks!

Also, this seems better suited for "VS System General Discussion", no?

I thought that but then I realized that this primer really is about decks, card selection and such like that, in general were not discussing the game like is card A better than card B, were trying to educate those looking to up their game, this typically involves making better deck hence the choice to add it to decks and strategy.

I've been trying to see if you guys, the council, would link this and other threads permanently to the front page of the forums and vs system.org.

I'm working on getting the council more front page control, so I'll let you know if/when that happens.

Also, the IRL tournaments would be in Rochester, NY... so there's that.

I like anything aimed at new players since I still consider myself to be one having only played for 12 months or so and one particular area that I know would be of use to us newby's is an explanation of the various formats and terms such as Cube,BYOT,Legend and the various Ages (golden etc), I guess most of them were for tournament purposes but since VS was not being produced when I started information was quite scarce and difficult to find except on this site.
I have read bits in various area's of the forum but getting them all in one place would be good.

I think MUL should be added to your list as well as FF,X-men and Batman starter decks since I believe they all had cards only available in those decks and not found in boosters.
It would be nice to know where MEQ,MUL and DCX were originally found since I think you've covered all the other promo sets.
I hope this goes on to become as interesting as UKYO's blog, perhaps that's a little optimistic since they are quite different subjects but good luck.

I forgot about MUL!!! Duh lol xD as for the starter decks and origin stories, ill have to do some digging but consider it done.

Formats are no problem, check back in about an hour. This thread has been constantly been updated since I started it this morning. Gotta love breaks at work lol

Thanks for the support. Ill do my best to give everyone something. While I don't think it'll be as good as UKYOs blog, this will end up being something special and great to have around.

Keep it coming guys ^_^
