After 4 rounds, we cut to top 4. Top 4 decks: X-Faces Clown College Avengers Marauders X-Faces vs Marauders Clown College vs Avengers The Clowns took the Avengers to school. X-Faces ran out of steam and the Marauders went on a massacre. In the end the Marauders burned down the college. Marauders FTW!! |

Indeed! X-Faces went 4-0 in Swiss rounds, but didn't play me until top 4. It was very well put together! I can post the list for marauders later, ad I'll try to get at least top 4, if not all, the deck lists. |

Had a blast! Will def be around other tournys I can make. Suprise suprise I was the X-Faces player lol. 4 beetle armorsmith 4 yelllowjacket Rita demara 4 archangel angel 1 green goblin insanity unleashed 1 speedball <> penance painmonger 1 blizzard frosty friend 1 forge the maker 1 Sunfire rising sun 1 speed demon whizzer 1 speed demon second chance speedster 1 longshot hero of mojoworld 1 cyclops slim 1 sage Xavier's secret weapon 1 sage earth 610 1 Melissa gold <> screaming Mimi Mimi Schwartz 1 Melissa gold <> songbird sonic carapace 1 joystick Janice yanizesh 1 iceman snowman 1 Dallas riordan mayoral aide 1 Nathan <> black knight corrupt crusader 1 cannonball blast field 2 blackbird blue 4 faces of evil 2 xmen united 3 invasion plans 4 losing the argument 4 pathetic attempt 3 death of the dream 4 birthing chamber 4 xcorp Amsterdam Shoutouts at Iceman snowman. Death of the dream was the wrong tech, fastball special would've swung the marauders matchup more evenly, I saw 2 DotD's while playing but I also got lucky with how many pathetic attempts I drew. Other than that I would change the 1 drop speed demon and 3 drop sage if I brought this deck out again. Pleasure to meet everyone. Edited by SuperAzn, Apr 14 2013, 02:40 AM.

Well, here it is folks! Marauders! 4x Tempo 4x Mystique 2x Vertigo 4x Unuscione 3x Senyaka 4x Riptide 1x Blade, MUN 4x Random 4x Joanna Cargill 1x Invisible Woman, MUN 1x Harry Delgado,MXM 4x Sinister Disciples 4x Sovereign Superior 4x Nasty Surprise 4x Air Strike 3x Meltdown 3x Apokaliptian Hospitality 3x The Kyln 3x Construction Site In hindsight, I should have run Stamford Incedent over Meltdown, but I was expecting people to bring Fate Suit, and that's a bad match up for me without them. The name Clown College is a play on the name of the deck that inspired it: Evil Medical School. We had been working on another random punks stall deck that had a turn 9 Dr. Light win-condition, but we felt that deck was far too slow and fragile so we wanted something that more proactively locked down your opponents characters. Robot Sentry and Shimmer seemed like the logical place to start. There ended up being some pretty massive changes made to compensate for the loss of all the rares (hence the Clown name), but the spirit of the deck remained the same: Doctor Doom, Doctor Light, and a supporting cast gang up to make your opponents characters turn sideways when they don't want to. I piloted the version that missed top 4 (the mirror match did me in), but I'm fairly certain this is the list that my friend was playing: CLOWN COLLEGE Characters: 4x Moloids - Army 4x Robot Sentry-Army 4x Shimmer-Selinda Flinders 3x Silver Surfer - Skyrider of the Spaceways 2x Puppet Master-Philip Masters 1x Lacuna-Media Darling 1x Commissioner Gordon-James Gordon 4x Dr. Doom - Richards’s Rival 1x Dr. Doom - Sorcerous Savant 3x Dr. Light-Arthur Light 2x Aquaman, King of the Seven Seas 1x Dorma - Atlantean General Locations: 1x 31st Century Metropolis - Team-Up Plot Twists: 4x Vicarious Living 3x Mystical Paralysis 4x Press the Attack 4x Origin Story 3x Omnipotence 3x Marvel Team-Up 3x The Underworld Star 2x The Stamford Incident 2x For Great Justice! 1x Death of the Dream My version of the deck had 5 Robot Sentrys and no DotD. This version was supposed to have 5 Sentrys as well but one got lost. My friend probably would have cut a Moloid in favor of the fifth Sentry since he wanted the option of resource destruction. Our tech choices left a bit to be desired. In earlier builds we ran a copy of 5 drop Koriand'r from DCL as extra weenie hate, but somewhat fearful of the downside of including another large, off-team character we felt that the two Stamfords would be enough to get by. My friend missed her presence on at least one occasion. And, as mentioned earlier, nobody was running a fate suit so the Commissioner Gordon was a dead card. This is a stall deck so it is reactive and has something of a fluid game plan based on what your opponent is playing. Ideally you want the odd initiative but you can survive if you get evens. The Robot Sentrys lock down your opponent's low drops on and off initiative. On init you exhaust their field with Shimmer. Off init you exhaust it with a combination of Puppet Master and Mystical Paralysis. On later turns you can stun your opponents characters with Dr. Light and Press the Attacks. Aquaman is your superstar finisher as he can get back anything at the start of combat. Ideally you get multiple Presses back, exhaust their field with Shimmer, and plow through their low drops that you've kept around this long by swinging multiple times with Aquaman and Press. You should be able to eat curve and short curve decks alive with this deck, but swarm is more of an issue since you can't always exhaust all their guys and you need to keep your field around to be effective. Stamford is very valuable if they are reliant on a lot of 1 drops. You don't mind discarding your entire hand as long as you have a Silver Surfer on the board to set up your draw for the rest of the game. If you're worried about something running lots of 2s you'll have to find space for a Koriand'r. The other tech is pretty basic. Use Omni to lock out their best character/plot twist if you recognize the type of deck they're playing or just call PA/DotD if you're worried about them negating your effects or messing with your row. For Great Justice! is if you end up against some sort of burn deck (or a rush deck you fail to contain initially). You can pretty easily gain 5 or 6 endurance off of one of them which can sometimes buy you an extra turn or two. Your biggest weaknesses are out of combat stun, row disruption, and deck manipulation. Cards like Hawkeye and Riptide (especially Riptide) can make your life miserable by stunning your Shimmer off initiative or making your Surfer lose his counter. Riptide is the #1 reason this deck loses to Marauders. Usually you can deal with Hawkeye by calling him with Omni without too much of a hassle. Row hate hurts you by blowing up your Omnis and also because you run the old school Marvel Team-Up so you can tutor it with Lacuna. Since it is not technically a team-up card, it's vulnerable to pretty much everything under the sun. Lastly you have cards like Prankster and Manhunter Clone that can destroy your plans of stacking your deck with Silver Surfer. This sucks because Surfer is how you plan to stockpile Presses and hit your higher drops (especially your off-team win condition Aquaman). In spite of its flaws, this deck should give you a pretty good matchup against the decks we see as the non-Ratcather based "Big Three" in this format: TNNB, Avengers reservist, and No Hand Squadron. It also has the slots and tricks to deal with a good number of other decks if you have a good sense of what your meta will be. Hopefully you all enjoy this deck, we had a fun time building it. We should do something like quarter yearly box tournaments. Get 8 people to pitch in for 2 boxes of something and we just meet up and play. 18/12/6/4/2/2/2/2 = 48 for prizes Or 12/7/4/3/1/1/1/1 = 30 for prizes and 18 for draft. |

Speaking of 8 people tournaments. If there are 7 others willing to do something crazy and you got about an extra $103 laying around/willing to part with, I have an awesome proposal. PM me for details |

@Kevmac Sorry about that.. I wanted to play, but it was getting to crowded, and we had a long drive home.. Plus I wasn't feeling too good. Next time though, and we can use rares if you want! I warn you though, Marauders was built to massacre Morlocks.. Lol @Superazn PM'ed, and if we can't get a turnout for these "Mega-Weekend" tournaments, and people don't pre-reg until the last second.. I don't know if we'll have any luck getting people to do this quarterly.. Even if its just 8 people, that would probably be more localized than a big tourney... |

Hey everyone, this is Brian, who took avengers reservist to top 4 at the mega weekend! The tournament was a blast, and i defended my home as best as i could, but couldn't do it well enough it seems. my losses were to x-faces (misplay on my part) and to Clown College. so, without further ado, here is the deck. 4 Rick jones 1 drop 4 iron fist 1 drop 4 captain america 2 drop 4 natasha romanoff - black widow 4 black panther 4 quicksliver 3 drop 4 carol danvers - warbird 4 hawkeye 4 drop 3 sub mariner 5 drop 1 she hulk 4 wonder man 6 drop 7 hercules (marvel avengers one) 4 heroes in reserve 4 call down the lightning 4 the big three 4 no mans escapes the manhunters. And, thats the deck, in a nutshell. any questions about card choices, feel free to ask. |

A dozen in NYC? So for those of you who didn't attend this well planned in advance event, I ask why, and not to be nasty, really just to understand what happened is happening. Is it time of year? Location? Transportation? Lack of disposable income? Lack of interest, cards, decks? I live 3000 miles away, not a great excuse but its all I have. It looks like it was great fun for those who made it, and I love the deck lists, I'm being inspired to build a few more treats for my friends. |

QFT I'm currently going through a really tough time with my wife, my mortgage, my oldest son (major health problems at 5 years old, and already had brain surgery..). In addition my boss dropped his job in my lap for last week and this coming week, which means I had full responsibility for everything that happens in the store for those 2 weeks, and the employees there are either brand new (still don't know how to do a lot) or aren't that good at their jobs.. And that doesn't say anything about my own major health problems, and the fact that I broke a tooth the day before the event and was in terrible pain from an exposed nerve in my mouth all day Saturday... I planned this tournament a good 6 months in advance, give everyone ample time to test, and free your schedules. I'm planning one more tournament in the fall. I'll have an exact date by the end of the week (need to talk to the shop owner). It will be held at Games and Stuff in Glen Burnie, which is just south of Baltimore. If the turn out there is just our play group plus 4-5, I'm going to be done planning and organizing these tournaments. I go through a lot of work to set these things up, and spend time I dont have trying to promote it everywhere I can. So I you truly love and support this game, live in the Mid-Atlantic area, and want this community to grow, I believe that you should be attending these tournaments. I would like to thank Brian from New York, as he's been a great help in trying to get the New York group together, as well as my play group here in MD for having my back and helping me get these things running. Here's where I end my rant. Sorry for the wall of text, but I was extremely disappointed with the turn out yesterday.. I was expecting almost double what we had.. |
