Plans are now in place for this years UK Mega Weekend! Please feel free to PM for more details.

When?

September 7th and 8th 2013

House of Heroes opens at 10am on Saturday 7th and stays open till late.

On Sunday we open at 10:30am and close up by 11 pm.

House of Heroes will also be open the preceding Friday night (6th September) from 7pm for casual play and drafting.

Where?

House of Heroes
43 Church Gate
Loughborough
Leicestershire
LE11 1UE

Price?

The entry fee is £2.50 each day payable on the door (Friday night is free).

Drafts will be £6 per player or £3 per player for French boosters.

Proxies

Because UDE haven’t printed any cards in a long while this will be a proxy tolerant event. This means you can play with “proxy cards” in your deck. However all proxies must clearly display what card they are, and all of that cards salient information. (You cannot use Proxies in the drafts!)

Main Events & Formats:

Saturday 7th September (doors open 10am play will begin at 10:30am)

The main event will be “Classic Age” with round one kicking off at (or as soon as possible after) 10:30am.

What is Classic Age?

Classic Age features all the booster sets and starters from the Origins sets through to Marvel Team-up and Worlds Finest, with the addition of the MEX and DCX sets.

The standard council ban/errata list is in effect with the addition that the following cards are also banned:
Ahmed Samsarra
A Child Named Valeria
Amulet of Nabu
Cloak of Nabu
Helm of Nabu

The full list of playable set codes for day one’s Classic Age is: MOR, DOR, MSM, DSM, MMK, DGL, MAV, DJL, MXM, DCR, MHG, DLS, MTU, DWF, MEX, DCX, MXS, EHB, MFF, DBM.

Classic Age FAQ:

Q: Why the additional bannings?
A: The small list of additional bannings are to try and avoid “negative play experiences”.

Q: Can I Use cards from the Galactus box?
A: MEX cards are allowed but MCG cards are not. You can play call in a favour and Surfers board etc. but not Omnipotence or Pathetic attempt etc.

Sunday 8th September (doors open 10:30am play will begin at 11am)

The Main Format is Golden Age Insanity (aka. Highlander / Singleton)

For this event you can play cards from any set, but you can only play one copy of any given card in your deck.

For this event all insane text is “switched off” as if you were not playing an insane deck. (So you can still play Basil Karlo <> Ultimate Clayface - Mud Pack but his insane text will be considered blank).

The standard council ban/errata list is still in effect, and you can play MEV cards (except 3 drop blink who is on the banned list).

Golden Age Insanity FAQ:

Q: Can I play Wolverine 3 drop and 5 drop in my deck?
A: Cards are unique by name AND version in combination so you can play a copy of both Wolverine - Ultimates & Wolverine - Secret Avenger. Reprints of the same card still have the same name AND version so you can still only play one copy. For instance you can’t play both Captain Boomerang - George Harkness (DJL) & Captain Boomerang - George Harkness (DCL)

Q: Army Characters Ignore Deck Building Restrictions right? So I can play any number of these?
A: No! The “Highlander Rule” applies to all cards. You may only play one copy of any given army card in your deck. (You may also include no more than one Five in One or Triad - Luornu Durgo).

Bizarro World?
For either days constructed event you can choose any one of the official texts - see list here:
http://newbreview.com/vssystem/?page_id=2228
But you must declare which you are using to the head judge (i.e. me) at the start of the day.

Side Events & Evenings (Friday & Sat/Sun after the days constructed event finishes):

Drafts - Various sets will be on offer most @ £6 per player (3 boosters, we have some French Marvel Knights/Web of Spiderman Boosters @£2.50 per player if you are feeling brave...)

Galactus – test your might against big G.

Casual play

With sufficient interest we may hold a sealed deck tournament. (Prices to be determined.)

Prizes:

There will be a selection of Prizes this year, although Vs. related prizes are harder and harder to come by they will be comic book hero related. (Unfortunately the TBS cards from last year never arrived )

Judging:

As UDE no longer support or sanction Vs. System there aren’t really any Judges around anymore. I was a Judge but one big reason for me organising this event is wanting to play in it.

Therefore Judging will be done by a selection of players (including me) identified at the start of the event – I will be “Head Judge” and have final say on rulings except in games I am playing in, when my 2IC will have the final say.

If you want to volunteer to judge please drop me an email (ukvssystem@gmail.com) or message me on Facebook.

Other Things:

Facebook:

There is a Facebook event for this event. https://www.facebook.com/events/458971547521441/ If you are coming and have a Facebook account, it would be great if you could confirm your attendance there.
Whether you are coming to the event or not why not joint the UK Vs. System Players FB group? https://www.facebook.com/groups/199259530104488/?fref=ts
Please invite your Vs. friends too.

Accommodation:

If you are looking to stay over in Loughborough the venue is on the outskirts of the town centre so most town centre accommodation won’t be far from the venue. You might want to check out distances on Google maps. Postcode (LE11 1UE)

Admittance:

This event is open to all but if anyone under the age of 16 wishes to attend they will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult (which could be another player). Anyone playing in a main or side event will be required to pay an entrance fee but adults accompanying younger players and not playing themselves will not be charged.

Any coverage and pics from this event? We can do a front page article like the Gen Con one.

Probably need to contact Bungo for the details but I attended and played in the tournaments this year, my first ever VS tournament to play in, and found it to be well organised and a quite easy going atmosphere.

I think it averaged about 20 players each day with slightly more on the Saturday and the games were played in a 5 round system with a cut for the semi and the final. Bungo will need to give some more accurate details such as who won the various tournaments and with what decks.
Personally I played a Spider stall deck (badly) which probably would have won more with someone else using it as it was all a learning curve for me although most of the players were helpful with advice etc but usually after I'd lost which is understandable. I didn't notice any particular deck being over used and there seemed to be a good variety.

Allowing proxies made for a far better game so you could play on an even footing even though I have a good collection myself. A few of the proxies that I saw could have been better as a simple photocopy would do but there were one or two that just had the writing scribbled on some paper and they could have said anything to be honest and I wouldn't have known.

I enjoyed the drafts that were played after the main events partly because I managed to draft a few cards that I was after from MVL including a mobilise but it was also fun.

It did seem that a lot of the players that I spoke to hadn't managed to play a game since last years tournament apart from a quite active (and likeable) group from Cornwall so if anyone in UK can think of a way to get players together more, as Bungo as done, it might be worthwhile although distance seems the biggest problem.

Anyway I am now keenly awaiting next years dates?
