Anything VS. related going on @ Gencon 2013 besides me scouring for booster boxes in the dealer room?

Vintage and Legacy Champs got cancelled / moved this year so I'll have more free time than usual @ Gencon.

Can't wait. I'm planning on going for my first ever Gen Con and am expecting to have some good old VS fun. :)

Same here, this year will be my first GenCon. I am SOO very excited.

If I may pry, any idea what kind of events will be going on? The more time I have to plan and rope people in to joining me, the better!

Also, is there any chance that, especially if unofficial sets like Marvel Factions are used, custom cards will be ok to use? Not like altered cards (though those are cool) but print-outs glued to Vs. card backs? There was a tutorial for it on here somewhere...

Any unofficially released sets will most likely not be allowed, as far as custom cards, like mentioned in the Baltimore thread, build the deck with real cards, if the opponent is okay with it, switch out the card when you get it on the board. If the opponent has an issue with custom cards(they feel they will have issues realizing what's on your board due to strange pic), then all you can do is be sad x_x lol

While I'm sure that the answer will be the same, what I mean is for cards like Marvel Factions (if it's legal of course) or even a card that I just CAN'T find, if I could make a convincing proxy by printing out an image of the card and gluing it to a Vs. back. The point being of course is that we don't own a lot of the more sought after cards. DC Legends, Mobilize, just rares you'd need in high number. I'd hate to spend a LOT of money on cards I'd use maybe once a year competitively. It's a cheap reason, but hey, just wondering.

For those who don't understand what I mean, something like this:

Thanks Scott. The Vintage and Legacy MTG champs were giant time sinks on two days so it's been tough to make the VS. stuff the past few years, they've been replaced by qualifiers for an 80 pack history of magic draft that happens Sunday.

I'm throwing my hat in for the format to be

BYOTT no generics / no banned list (give Skrulls a chance!) / no crossing universes (Damn JSA/Defenders!)

or

BYOT 8 generic slots ... no crossing universes

Those are interesting formats. Kinda restrictive, at least with the big lack of generics. While it does force the teams to be very flavorful, it can mess up some teams that don't have some core things like search.

True, something like Arkham might have to burn 4 slots on Mobilize. There will always be weaker teams I guess, 8 gives you room for some pumps if a team is pump weak (Hellfire), or Mobilize for those without search. A few teams are fortunate and have search and pump (Warbound, Avengers, Spider Friends) ...

My only concern is that if it is BYOTT, then the deck should have two teams. I always felt it was stupid to have someone run all Spider-Friends and one copy of Galactus. There should be a reasonable ratio of maybe 60/40. I understand that some people might disagree, but I feel that only including one character or one plot twist of a second team is against the spirit of the format.

Hm, never thought of that with BYOTT. I'd say that's a good requirement. Like, at least 12 (or whatever number) of members of the other team.

I personally would love to see a Legend-ish format, but also hate when the number of legend cards are restricted. Just doesn't feel like a Legend deck when the number of cards for a legend is limited to 12 or 16. (Referring to the Baltimore thread. Nothing against the guy who made the rules, just feels...kinda small for a Legend. But hey, whatever)

I go to gencon every year, but haven't played VS since 2009. What day is the tournament usually on? Where is it held?
