Also to Wally, while I agree that every format has a few "best" decks the TO has already eliminated the best agro options from the format by banning TNB. Why not also weaken the best stall deck as well to really open up the tournament? That way people can feel much better about playing something different without getting crushed by the normal beasts.
I totally agree with this. I don't mind getting crushed by normal beat decks, but having someone sail through with stall is irksome. Eliminating the top two obvious decks opens the door for a lot more creativity as well.

Seems like a similar issue to the dual legend format tournament. There are cards that are obviously too powerful for a format like this and those cards need to be really evaluated to determine if they break the format in a negative way

Would banning Scarlet Spider be enough? It does stop the use of a LOT of Spidermen, but if they team up with Crisis, they can just ignore that with Crisis on Infinite Earths... But then they don't have the Spider-Friends support. And they'd need a way to replace it to use Amazing Spiderman. So, maybe not worth it? Monitor is no Galactus... Also, if they draw enough, they can also use substitute to take out the unneeded Spidermen. Just a thought.

I'm all for neutering stall. It looks pretty nasty if it can be consistent, and I see no reason why it couldn't be. Though some decks just flat out stop it (or so I've seen, maybe I'm wrong) they are few and far between and I'd hate for this to devolve into stall and anti-stall. :/

Substituting Crisis on Infinite Earths for a banned Scarlet Spider would be no where near as good. Since CoIE causes you to lose all other affiliations, all plot twists and locations would become unusable. Some of the character abilities could not be used either, such as The Sensational Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Cosmic Spider-Man.

Ha...didn't even notice that Sensational was team stamped. Well then, never mind. Substituting might work. Maybe with Darkseid? But yeah, it does seem to damper the power level...

I noticed that there are no Vs. system events listed at GenCon.com. Is this an error or have they not been set up yet? Or, do they get set up at all? Is this just a gathering and we play at whatever free tables we find...?

Also, how much is each tourney? (BYOTT and Sealed) If it isn't a registered event, do we still need generic tickets? Or just cash? And when do signups start, if at all? Sorry to drop so many questions, but this is my first GenCon and I would like to plan ahead as much as possible. :P

Cash is not allowed. You need tickets. The events were posted a couple of months ago, but they didn't understand some of my wording, so I had to repost them (even though I copied and pasted most things from last year). Now they're dragging they're feet.

Crisis would have to be your second team if you went that route. As mentioned earlier, I did ban Spider-Man Ultimates, TNB, and Clarice Ferguson (along with the standard list).

I remember you saying you were considering banning Spider-Man: Ultimates, but I didn't know you confirmed it. Great! I can finally relax and just build something!

Ah! Did not see the loss of Spider-Man Ultimates... Alright. That should help. Cool.

So, many many tickets do I need for the tournaments?

Looks like the events are up in the event listings!

Constructed Friday at 8am $10 ticket
Sealed Friday at 4pm $16 ticket

I'll see you at the sealed event!

For Edh/commander format for MTG we just won't play with people that play busted stuff. Either that or we won't play against that deck. This only works for casual play though.

Even unsanctioned tournaments you cannot control what others will play. Somebody is going to play best deck for the format.

One way to encourage creativity is by giving out prizes for the most unexpected creative deck that does the best. At least for BYOTT.

This gives us Johnny's an alternate win against Spike. A moral victory at least.
