Winnipeg Transit will roll out its newest batch of buses next week. CTV Winnipeg got a preview Friday morning.
The buses go by many names, including articulated, tandem or stretch buses. Winnipeg now has 20 of these pre-owned, 60-foot buses.
“We are experiencing a lot of growth, and there are several routes that are so packed that they’re really exceeding the capacity of a 40-foot bus during peak periods,” said Tony Dreolini, manager of plant equipment for Winnipeg Transit. “So what we wanted to do was bring in a bigger bus that had greater capacity so that we wouldn’t be passing up people, or that people would have better opportunity for seats."

Tony Dreolini of Winnipeg Transit said the new buses will be added to routes that are often packed during peak hours.
Each bus cost just over $53,000. They are one-and-a-half times bigger than a regular city bus and can seat 54 people.
